The City of Joy very recently bore witness to the Sitar Event of the Decade.
It was an event curated by Sitar exponent Shri Subhranil Sarkar as part of his initiative The Baithaki Movement with Subhranil Sarkar. The evening featured two back-to-back Sitar duets (the first featuring Shri Smarajit Sen and Shri Ramprapanna Bhattacharya and the second featuring Shri Samanwaya Sarkar ( Sitar Sam ) and Shri Abhisek Mallick), with yet another able Sitar artist (Shri Shouvik Mukherjee) taking care of the sound.
The first pair of artists was accompanied on Tabla by Pandit Parimal Chakraborty and the second pair of artists received Sangat from Pandit Arup Chattopadhyay. Ragas Shyam Kalyan and Charukauns constituted the evening's menu. Both Ragas were treated as befits artistes of the calibre of the evening's performers.
The evening was made more memorable by the presence of many stalwarts of Hindustani Music, including Pandit Budhaditya Mukherjee, Vidwan S. Sekhar, Maestro Anjan Chattopadhyay, Maestro Prattyush Banerjee, Maestra Mita Nag, Maestro Ashim Chowdhury, Maestro Anindya Banerjee, Maestro Subhajyoti Guha, Maestra Reena Srivastava.
