👉🏻 The incredible life of Saint Mother Teresa of Calcutta 👑

"I will never forget her feet.

I noticed them when I worked in Calcutta with her and the sisters in the 1990s. Every morning we took off our shoes as we went into the chapel to pray. And hers were deformed. I wondered if she had contracted leprosy or something. But wasn't about to ask her about it. Then...

One of the nuns explained it to us. Her feet became deformed because there were just enough donated shoes for everyone to get a pair... not many extras.

So Mother Teresa dug through the donations and took the worst pair of shoes for herself. And over the years, wearing the worst pair of shoes deformed her feet.

Her life confounds the values of our culture -- the materialism... the narcissism.

It does raise the question for us -- what would the world look like if we took this idea -- "love your neighbor as yourself" -- literally? What if we really did "honor the needs of others above our own" (Romans 12:10)?

It would transform the world."

Feast of the Day (November 2)
✠ All Souls’ Day ✠
Also called:
Feast of All Souls
Defunct' Day
Day of Remembrance
Commemoration of the Faithful Departed

Observed by:
Roman Catholicism
Eastern Orthodoxy
Lutheranism
Anglicanism
Methodism
Other Protestant denominations

Feast Day: November 2

Once the Halloween candy has been counted and the costumes stored away, many religious people around the world enter into a time of remembrance for the dead. In the Christian calendar, this tradition is upheld on All Souls’ Day, which falls yearly on Nov. 2. It follows All Saints’ Day, which is observed on Nov. 1.

While All Saints’ Day is a day that Catholics remember those who have already entered heaven, All Souls’ Day is a day to pray for all loved ones who have died. In particular, Catholics remember the souls of those who are caught in purgatory, undergoing a process of purification before entering heaven.

The Catholic Church teaches that “all who die in God’s grace, but still imperfectly purified, are indeed assured of their eternal salvation; but after death, they undergo purification, so as to achieve the holiness necessary to enter the joy of heaven.”

The purification that happens in purgatory is entirely different from the punishment that takes place in hell. According to the church’s catechism — a document containing essential church teachings — purgatory is like a “cleansing” or “purifying” fire for people who are already assured of God’s grace. Catholics believe that souls in purgatory can be helped along the path towards heaven by the prayers of those who are still living.

All Souls’ Day is not a holy day of obligation, so Catholics aren’t expected to attend church. However, if it falls on a Sunday, Catholics mark the day by attending a special Mass. Catholics also visit the graves of their loved ones, where they light candles, leave flowers and sprinkle holy water.

One of the most famous prayers for those in purgatory is the prayer of St. Gertrude the Great, a 13th-century German Benedictine nun. According to tradition, God revealed to the nun that the following prayer would release 1,000 souls from purgatory every time it is said:

Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the Masses said throughout the world today, for all the Holy Souls in Purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal church, those in my own home and within my family. Amen.

Although All Souls’ Day is primarily a Catholic holy day, it is also observed by the Eastern Orthodox Church, the Anglican church and a few other Protestant denominations.

In Latin American countries and communities, All Souls’ Day celebrations are often tied to Día de Mu***os (also Día de Los Mu***os), or “the Day of the Dead,” which falls on Nov. 1 and 2. Celebrations are elaborate and joyful, with observers participating in costume parades and visits to cemeteries. Some families create altars inside their homes to remember their departed relatives.

I saw a huge number, impossible to count, of people from every nation, race, tribe and language

*Apocalypse 7: 2-4,9-14*

I, John, saw another angel rising where the sun rises, carrying the seal of the living God; he called in a powerful voice to the four angels whose duty was to devastate land and sea, ‘Wait before you do any damage on land or at sea or to the trees, until we have put the seal on the foreheads of the servants of our God.’ Then I heard how many were sealed: a hundred and forty-four thousand, out of all the tribes of Israel.
After that I saw a huge number, impossible to count, of people from every nation, race, tribe and language; they were standing in front of the throne and in front of the Lamb, dressed in white robes and holding palms in their hands. They shouted aloud, ‘Victory to our God, who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!’ And all the angels who were standing in a circle round the throne, surrounding the elders and the four animals, prostrated themselves before the throne, and touched the ground with their foreheads, worshipping God with these words, ‘Amen. Praise and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honour and power and strength to our God for ever and ever. Amen.’
One of the elders then spoke, and asked me, ‘Do you know who these people are, dressed in white robes, and where they have come from?’ I answered him, ‘You can tell me, my lord.’ Then he said, ‘These are the people who have been through the great persecution, and they have washed their robes white again in the blood of the Lamb.’

Psalm 23(24):1-6

*Such are the men who seek your face, O Lord.*

The Lord’s is the earth and its fullness,
the world and all its peoples.
It is he who set it on the seas;
on the waters he made it firm.

*Such are the men who seek your face, O Lord.*

Who shall climb the mountain of the Lord?
Who shall stand in his holy place?
The man with clean hands and pure heart,
who desires not worthless things.

*Such are the men who seek your face, O Lord.*

He shall receive blessings from the Lord
and reward from the God who saves him.
Such are the men who seek him,
seek the face of the God of Jacob.

We shall be like God because we shall see him as he really is

*1 John 3:1-3*

Think of the love that the Father has lavished on us, by letting us be called God’s children;
and that is what we are.
Because the world refused to acknowledge him,
therefore it does not acknowledge us.
My dear people, we are already the children of God
but what we are to be in the future has not yet been revealed;
all we know is, that when it is revealed
we shall be like him
because we shall see him as he really is.
Surely everyone who entertains this hope
must purify himself, must try to be as pure as Christ.

*The Word of the Lord*.

How happy are the poor in spirit

*A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Matthew 5: 1-12a*

Seeing the crowds, Jesus went up the hill. There he sat down and was joined by his disciples. Then he began to speak. This is what he taught them:
‘How happy are the poor in spirit;
theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Happy the gentle:
they shall have the earth for their heritage.
Happy those who mourn:
they shall be comforted.
Happy those who hunger and thirst for what is right:
they shall be satisfied.
Happy the merciful:
they shall have mercy shown them.
Happy the pure in heart:
they shall see God.
Happy the peacemakers:
they shall be called sons of God.
Happy those who are persecuted in the cause of right:
theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
‘Happy are you when people abuse you and persecute you and speak all kinds of calumny against you on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward will be great in heaven.’

You are merciful to all, because you love all that exists

Wisdom 11:22-12:2

In your sight, Lord, the whole world is like a grain of dust that tips the scales,
like a drop of morning dew falling on the ground.
Yet you are merciful to all, because you can do all things
and overlook men’s sins so that they can repent.
Yes, you love all that exists, you hold nothing of what you have made in abhorrence,
for had you hated anything, you would not have formed it.
And how, had you not willed it, could a thing persist,
how be conserved if not called forth by you?
You spare all things because all things are yours, Lord, lover of life,
you whose imperishable spirit is in all.
Little by little, therefore, you correct those who offend,
you admonish and remind them of how they have sinned,
so that they may abstain from evil and trust in you, lord October 30th : Responsorial Psalm

Psalm 144(145):1-2,8-11,13b-14

I will bless your name for ever, O God my King.

I will give you glory, O God my king,
I will bless your name for ever.
I will bless you day after day
and praise your name for ever.

I will bless your name for ever, O God my King.

The Lord is kind and full of compassion,
slow to anger, abounding in love.
How good is the Lord to all,
compassionate to all his creatures.

I will bless your name for ever, O God my King
All your creatures shall thank you, O Lord,
and your friends shall repeat their blessing.
They shall speak of the glory of your reign
and declare your might, O God.

I will bless your name for ever, O God my King.

The Lord is faithful in all his words
and loving in all his deeds.
The Lord supports all who fall
and raises all who are bowed down.

I will bless your name for ever, O God my King.October 30th : Second Reading

The name of Christ will be glorified in you, and you in him

A Reading from the Second Letter of St.Paul to Thessalonians 1:11-2:2

We pray continually that our God will make you worthy of his call, and by his power fulfil all your desires for goodness and complete all that you have been doing through faith; because in this way the name of our Lord Jesus Christ will be glorified in you and you in him, by the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.
To turn now, brothers, to the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and how we shall all be gathered round him: please do not get excited too soon or alarmed by any prediction or rumour or any letter claiming to come from us, implying that the Day of the Lord has already arrived.

The Word of the Lord.

Blessings on the King who comes,
in the name of the Lord!

Salvation comes to the house of Zacchaeus

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Luke 19:1-10

Jesus entered Jericho and was going through the town when a man whose name was Zacchaeus made his appearance: he was one of the senior tax collectors and a wealthy man. He was anxious to see what kind of man Jesus was, but he was too short and could not see him for the crowd. So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore tree to catch a glimpse of Jesus who was to pass that way. When Jesus reached the spot he looked up and spoke to him: ‘Zacchaeus, come down. Hurry, because I must stay at your house today.’ And he hurried down and welcomed him joyfully. They all complained when they saw what was happening. ‘He has gone to stay at a sinner’s house’ they said. But Zacchaeus stood his ground and said to the Lord, ‘Look, sir, I am going to give half my property to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody I will pay him back four times the amount.’ And Jesus said to him, ‘Today salvation has come to this house, because this man too is a son of Abraham; for the Son of Man has come to seek out and save what was lost.’

The Word of the Lord.
