“When the proposal to hold an International Film Festival in India was first mooted, a question that was frequently asked was: What is the object of such a festival, what purpose will it serve? To that, the reply was two-fold: First, a film festival enables film audiences in the country in which the festival is held to see the best pictures made in all the participating film-producing countries; secondly, an International Film Festival affords an opportunity to those engaged in the motion-picture industries of the participating countries to meet and discuss matters of common concern to all of them, to compare notes on the progress of this form of art and to concert plans for its future development.”

As the 53rd edition of IFFI, the International Film Festival of India, closes, we recall the above words of C. M. Agarwala, Organising Committee Chairperson of the very first edition of IFFI, conducted for the first time in 1952, in what was then Bombay. He said these words during his welcome address, delivered on January 24, 1952.

Moral foundation of mankind should be strong to meet the technological challenges: A.R. Rahman

No machine can imbibe the questioning and curiosity of human being: Pranav Mistry

My fear is not about AI replacing me, but whether I will be able to adapt to it: Shekhar Kapur

, Press Information Bureau in Maharashtra Press Information Bureau - PIB, Government of India

Can AI ever replace AR (A.R Rahman)?

Addressing an In Conversation session at the ongoing 53rd edition of IFFI, legendary music composer A.R Rahman answered the existential question of the new digital age, albeit in a light vein, by saying that “I am AI”. Yes, there would be no difference between AR and AI as both evolve and grow with time, says Rahman. The living legend, whose music continues to make many an Indian as well as foreigners skip a beat, was in Goa to address festival delegates. This time, not so much regarding his soul-stirring music, as regarding the evolution of technology, drawing upon his new avatar as a producer of films which employ technologies such as Artificial Intelligence and others, in the quest to redefine and reinvent cinematic experiences for the technologically mediated era of tomorrow.

Men are not just numbers, but dignified living individuals: Director Claudia Sainte-Luce

Men are not just numbers, but dignified living individuals. In the run up to amass money, a section of people forget this fact and indulge in heinous crimes like kidnapping and human trafficking. The Mexican film Sol’s Journey being screened under International Panorama at the 53rd International Film festival of India in Goa presents this highly sensitive story of human trafficking in Mexico.

Addressing one of the ‘IFFI-Table Talks’ sessions today, Director of the film, Claudia Sainte-Luce said, the film highlights the rampant problem of human trafficking and its serious social implications. “In Mexico, a fraction of people don’t really value human beings. The issue has gone to such a level where the value of pet animals is much more than humans. Most of the people are really bothered about their missing pets which is evident from the increased number of posters about them, but nobody is really bothered about thousands of missing people, particularly kids”, she added.
