An 81-year-old man was admitted to the ER with acute lower abdominal pain and rectal bleeding which was suspected to originate from known hemorrhoids.
At ER, biochemical exams revealed elevated lactate (4.2 mmol/l). Rectal examination showed hemorrhoids (third- or fourth-degree), but no bleeding.
Diagnosis: Pseudomembranous colitis (PMC).
