Hi there,

From the 13th to the 16th, the Mitama Festival is being held at Yasukuni Shrine in Tokyo. The highlight of this festival is the multitude of lanterns that line the area. I'm attaching photos I took today, so please take a look. It's probably one of the largest in Japan. Not only Japanese but also many tourists from overseas were visiting. If you happen to be in Tokyo during this period, it might be worth a visit!

Hi there,

Since "T" in TSDS stands for Tokyo, we usually don't cover events in other cities. However, there's an interesting event happening in Nagano Prefecture that I'd like to detail here. It will take place at a Cafe & Bar in Matsumoto City, scheduled for Sunday, July 14th at 18:00. A 5-piece jazz band will be performing. This marks Matsumoto City's first live band swing dance party. For those coming from Tokyo, there are express buses available from Shinjuku. The venue also has a guest house, so if available, it's possible to stay there affordably that night. It falls right in the middle of a three-day weekend, so extending your trip a bit from Tokyo and enjoying some nature in Shinshu (Nagano Prefecture) could be quite enjoyable, don't you think? Hirofumi Asaba’s Quartet will be performing at Cotton Club Tokyo in Marunouchi on July 11th. This venue is Tokyo’s premier jazz club, where only top jazz musicians from Japan and around the world perform. Information for lindyhoppers about a jazz festival at Kanda Awaji Cho in Tokyo is now available. This festival is a free outdoor jazz festival happening in the center of Tokyo on the 26th to the 28th of this month. No booking needed. TSDS has skipped Latin and fusion jazz bands and picked some bands of swing jazz and blues. Hope to see you and have a good time of dancing there.

Ken Aoki, a superb banjo player in Japan, will be inducted into the American Banjo Museum Hall of Fame in 2024 along with four other fabulous players. Ken performs at the Shinjuku Jazz Festival every year. Congratulations, Ken!

There is no Necola Wednesday Night Hop on the 27th. Instead, some of dancers are joining this jazz live at Shibuya. Although the organizer of the event is saying there is dance space there, I'm wondering only a few pairs might be able to dance a little. The club is small for even 100 listeners. Regarding musicians, Hajime and Oji are very nice jazz players in Japan. TSDS has nothing to do with this event, so if you are interested in this, check out the website below. BTW, it is written in Japanese.
