東京私的演奏協会とは、クラシック音楽と現代音楽を取り巻く状況がますます厳しくなっているいま、作曲家、演奏家、そして聴衆の三者の関係をもういちど原点から見直すために生まれた非営利の音楽団体です。
このネーミングは、シェーンベルクが1919年から3年間ウィーンで催した「私的演奏協会（Verein für musikalische Privataufführungen）からとっており、その精神を21世紀の東京で引き継ごうという意気込みを表現しています。

客席に限りがあるため、基本的に予約制となっております。
