Its 2025 and you use Serato… what machine(computer) would you get for djn?

If you are on a budget (below ksh 100,000 (700usd)) i got two options:

1. Macbook pro 2012 (non retina) upgraded with 16gb ram and 4 tb ssd (2+2) (or even 4+4 = 8TB) remove the disc tray and replace with ssd… create 3 partitions on your hdd and install MacOS Yosemite, Mojave and Catalina . You will be able to play with all machines old and current (rane ttm 5sl, sl 1 to pioneer ddj rev 5)
Two problems:
1 you will have to buy a mini display to hdmi converter (doesnt work with all video processors)
2. Doesnt do stems very well

2. Macbook pro 2015 retina specifically the 15 inch version with AMD radeon graphics or 13 inch with 16 gb ram upgraded with 4tb nvme … create 3 partitions and install MacOs Yosemite, Mojave and Catalina… you will be able to play with all the machines and do a bit of stems. Does not need any dongle unless you are using devices with USB 3 (very few controllers at the moment e.g pioneer ddj rev 5)

If you can spend close to around ksh 100,000 (700 usd) and above here are the two options:

1. Macbook pro 2019 16 inch core i9 version… very good laptop that will do everything, stems plus mix emergency and serato will work perfectly… has a number of problems as follows:
1. You cant upgrade its hardware… getting a higher storage model is expensive as i would recommend not getting less than 1tB of storage. You will have to rely on external storage media
2. Heats from extended use and might cause throttling which reduces its performance
3. Installing old OS is a challenge so playing with old hardware will be a problem
4. You will have to get a dongle to have normal usb hdmi connections… 3rd party dongles will fail you at some point. Get original apple dongles

2. Macbook pro m1-m4 14 and 16 inch version… best laptop series… if you have the money for this go for it… you can surely afford getting the 1TB version dont go for anything lower… you can afford all the dongles…

NB - dont buy any macbook pro 2016 to 2019 (13 and 15 inch) keyboard was a meeeeesssssss and they have heating issues

Dont buy any macbook air for djn

I would not suggets djn professionally with a windows laptop.
