Poem Title: Njoroge Wanjigi

My role model
A man of integrity you will never see him in a bo****lo

A father figure to all flotsam and jetsam
He never brags of the time he spent jetsetting

My bosom friend
A man who will show you what is politics from politricks, grandly

A parent who puts his family first
So humble and down to earth that's the gist

My mentor
A man who fears God above everything else, not self centred

A business man who spits english that you will wonder if Kikuyu isn't his second language
Raised with values that honour the next person and he won't leave you in bandages

Our aspiring president
Who doesn't have any character dents

The Precarious William Samoei Ruto Administration's Tightrope: A
Call for Accountability and Redemption.

Watching the interaction between His Excellency William Samoei Ruto and Kenya's media houses over the weekend left me mesmerized. I couldn't help but be impressed by our president's political wizardry, charm, eloquence, and charisma, regardless of one's personal feelings toward him.

Love him or hate him, there's no denying that our president possesses unmatched intellect, confidence, and oratory skills. It's worth noting that he rose from the ranks, outmaneuvering political royalty to establish himself as the president of the Republic of Kenya.

He is the proverbial Prebetien who made himself King. Any reasonable stateman should and must honor and respect him. Long live Your Excellency, may your soul prosper, and beloved Kenya as your star shines higher and brighter.

However, my admiration took a sharp turn when one of his influential Cabinet Secretaries, a day later sparked a diplomatic row with a neighboring friendly state; a role model Nation for all sensible African statesmen.

I could not help but agree with one of Kenya's enduring statesman, and a titan of Kenyan democracy. When he justifiably remarked, "Statecraft and diplomacy require a more sophisticated etiquette beyond expensive watches, suits, and walking sticks."

Regrettably, power, money, and influence don't guarantee sophistication (atopic for another day).

Returning to the president's media interaction, I found myself questioning how an administration that came to power guided by The Bible could veer so far off course in such a short time.

The slogans "Sio uchawi, ni maombi (It is not witchcraft but prayers); they have the system, and the godfather, but we have God The Father" still fresh in my mind.,

But the administration's actions tell a different story. The government, initially empowered by the masses with the Bible in hand, seemingly discarded the guise and is busy manifesting its true persona, of grand theft, mega corruption, and insensitivity to the struggling masses.

An administration that is shamelessly utilizing parliament to run rough-shod on the very people who brought it to power.

An administration that is in bed, in an unholy matrimony with the church that should and must be calling it to order.

It's perplexing how any rational Kenyan can reconcile supporting individuals who once condemned an administration they were part and parcel of for overtaxing the masses. But is busy asphyxiating the masses with an unbearable load of taxes.

How can the "Bwana Asifiwe" (Praise The Lord) Administration be involved in massive corruption scandals?

Mr. President, how do you justify extravagant expenditures while proclaiming a global recession?

From a sustainable leadership and management perspective; however one slices this, it's evident that the administration is treading on extremely thin ice.

What with the goodwill of the masses dissipating rapidly, and furiously due to over-taxation, corruption, pride, nepotism, and impunity?

This Achilles heel, if left unaddressed, will lead to the unceremonious and tragic end of this government, with history passing harsh judgment against it.

While I believe in the president's determination and razor-sharp focus to "transform Kenya for the common good of all," the actions of his administration signal doom rather than progress.

It's crucial he decisively removes all individuals involved in corrupt practices and replace them with true leaders of the people, statesmen who are not only called but anointed to deliver Kenya from the abyss of abject squalor, mediocrity, and imminent doom.

Statemen like Njoroge Wanjigi and others, Inspired and Divinely equipped to turn around our beleaguered nation's sorry state in a record-breaking time before the soon Advent of The King of kings.

Ignoring this warning; rather prophecy, may lead to dire consequences, as the writing is on the wall concerning the current regime.

Nurturing Sustainable Leadership A Comprehensive Framework for Addressing Global Challenges and Driving Transformative Change
Sustainable leadership, positioned as a managerial paradigm, confronts the intricate challenges posed by global environmental, social, and economic considerations. Acknowledging leadership as a potent force, it seeks to dismantle organizational silos, promoting collaborative efforts among leaders to drive transformative change and effectively address pressing issues. The imperative to become a sustainable leader entails the acquisition of new skills and competencies. McKinsey & Co.'s research, highlighted in a Forbes article, emphasizes that a strategic focus on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) considerations correlates with enhanced value creation across pivotal business domains such as top-line growth, cost reductions, regulatory and legal interventions, productivity, and investment and asset optimization.

To nurture sustainable leadership qualities, practitioners are advised to prioritize sustainability as a central focus, seamlessly integrating it into organizational culture and values. A clear and ambitious vision, coupled with a long-term strategy emphasizing the organization's impact on future generations, transcends short-term considerations. Active team involvement in sustainability initiatives, coupled with essential resources and training, fosters participation. Collaborative efforts with peers from diverse disciplines contribute to formulating enduring solutions and stimulating innovative thinking. Staying informed about the latest trends and best practices in sustainable leadership demonstrates a commitment to ongoing learning and adaptation.

Crucially, sustainable leadership extends beyond environmental concerns, encompassing the creation of value and positive impact for all stakeholders. Through the adoption of sustainable practices, leaders play a pivotal role in shaping a better future for their organizations and the broader global community.

Leadership and Sustainability Debunked.
Leadership and sustainability is a management approach designed to tackle global challenges spanning environmental, social, and economic dimensions. Acknowledging leadership as a potent influencing process, this approach deconstructs organizational silos, nurturing collaborative endeavors among leaders for impactful change. In my interpretation of sustainable leadership, it encompasses deliberate actions and behaviors incorporating a global outlook, recognizing the intricate connection between the well-being of the planet and humanity. Through individual and organizational choices, sustainable leadership strives to initiate positive environmental and social changes.
Within the corporate domain, the amalgamation of leadership and sustainability involves decision-making geared towards waste reduction, mitigating over-consumption, and improving stakeholder relations, all while promoting profitability and gaining a competitive edge. It is therefore important for individuals to change their behaviors and organizations, starting with the board of directors and the human resources department, to spearhead waste reduction.
Fundamentally, leadership is the ability to inspire and influence others toward shared objectives. In a corporate context, effective leadership entails articulating a clear vision, adept communication, and inspiring collective efforts. Moreover, it involves decision-making aligned with the company's objectives and values, empowering employees to take ownership of their actions and responsibilities.
Suffice it to postulate, that the integration of leadership and sustainability in the corporate landscape should and must encompass decision-making that not only aligns with organizational goals and values but also takes into account the environmental and societal impacts of those decisions.

Unlock the Power of Social Capital.
Have you ever explored the concept of "Social Capital"? It refers to the wealth derived from interactions within social networks. Unfortunately, many treat it as a resource to be cashed in during major life events, such as weddings or funerals. People often receive sudden messages seeking support, revealing a lack of ongoing connection.
Social capital isn't an overnight creation; it requires time, and reciprocity, and transcends monetary value in our digitally connected world. Empathy and sensitivity are crucial, emphasizing the need for genuine connections, not just during times of need.
Embrace the profound reality of mutuality, for life is interconnected. What affects one directly affects all indirectly. Step out boldly and invest in Social Capital, and you'll witness a positive transformation in our world.
When cultivated, social capital significantly impacts one's quality of life, offering financial benefits, job opportunities, and even the potential for societal elevation. I speak from experience (thanks to those who believe in me) and the support of those who support me in my quest for leadership.
In today's world, humanity needs your kindness and generosity more than ever. Open your heart, extend your hands, and reach out to your fellow human beings. Planet Earth is our home, and together we can make it a better place for everyone.
In conclusion, realize that your most valuable asset is not your job, money, title, or accolades it's the people around you. Your network is your "Social Capital."

Found your Place in VUCA Land?!!!

Growing up in the dusty streets of Banana Hills a small utopic village in Kiambu County Kenya East Africa, and privileged to grow in a very close-knit extended family; whereas a child despite having no recollection of once being told: “I love you” yet, we (my siblings and cousins) were fully cognizance of the fact we were greatly loved and cherished. I also had the privileged position of not only being the ‘Oldest’ in the second generation family but also being the first-born boy child (Big deal in the African community especially the Gikuyu community that I belong to) and also the ‘first’ Njoroge Jr. I can confidently say without a shadow of a doubt or contradiction I was the ‘Apple’ of Granddad’s (The Patriarch of the Family) eyes and everyone else in the Njoroge lineage; over and above these I was the’ better looking’ of the ‘boys’ (respect to my cousins especially Njamba my ‘twin’, ‘protector’ (by nature I am peaceful, docile and happy go lucky) being petite the village boys used to pick on me a lot. This made my younger brother/cousin who was more bulkier albeit younger (by a few weeks) assume the role of my protector. So close was our bond and dependence on each other we were considered twins. I remember an instance where a bully got the better of my ‘bodyguard’ and as he was crying from the defeat. I cuddled close to him and helped him cry.) and partner in ‘crime’, the’ better behaved’ and ‘patriarch’ of the third generation Njoroges’ a darling of everyone in our close community. Suffice to say my childhood is littered with lots of happy memories, lots of laughter, fun, love, mischief as the ‘African’ boys can testify to and security.
In a small community of people such as the Njoroge extended family, the community has a great overlap in their frame of references. They no doubt have similar fables shared concerning their beliefs and common value systems etc. The community has neither issues about what they are morphing into nor strife about the tribulations of the big cold world out there.
The sad reality, however, is that in this current day and age these small communities are gradually dying out and or cannibalized by city dwell. What with 16% of the world population living in cities from the early 19th Century but speculated by the year 2050 68% of the world population will be living in Mega-Cities not to mention by 2022 75% of the general population will be living in a simulated world.
If you are like me who grew up in a cross knit community, it becomes extremely difficult to adjust and find your place in this World Wide Web. The interconnected world is literally turning the world, unity, the security we knew on its head; from being an ‘Inca’, the ‘Chief Kahuna’ where it is incumbent upon those from the outside to know you and assimilate into your way of living. In the current day and age, you all over a sudden find yourself the alien that must learn and adapt to the foreign world that’s encroaching on your world at a breakneck pace. Rendering today, obsolete what you learned yesterday, the universe is actually moving under your feet making it practically impossible to adjust.
Existing in this VUCA (Volatile, Uncertain, Complex and Ambiguous) land/world is extremely demanding. The challenge is to assimilate change by breaking it into smaller bite-sized chunks meaning you should strive to accept change and its demands by breaking it into shorter life cycles rest you become overwhelmed and fade into obscurity like the majestic dinosaurs.
As I conclude, in the midst of archetypal daily hassles where you are constantly assaulted with information overload, social media connectivity and pressures of daily living. It is not a wonder to find yourself feeling lost, confused and disorientated.
To find your place in VUCA land you must and should own your life. This should begin by an appreciation; your life is yours and yours alone. It does not belong to the society nor your employer’s and neither your friends’ by all means it does not belong to your family or spouse. It is yours and yours alone.
When I say possess your life. I am not campaigning for selfishness, megalomaniac arrogance, and egotism. I am advocating for surrendering your life to your Maker an appreciation of taking responsibility for your actions and acknowledging actions and decisions have consequences.
An acceptance that your Creator had a divinely inspired purpose uniquely designed for you. Therefore, it is your duty and responsibility to find this purpose and fulfill it.
The moment you wake up to this realization you are guaranteed to have come of age, to have matured and found your place in VUCA (Volatile, Uncertain, Complex, and Ambiguous) LAND.
VUCA is an acronym that was first introduced back in 1987 meaning Volatile/Volatility, Uncertain/Uncertainty, Complex/Complexity, and Ambiguous/Ambiguity. Reflecting on the leadership theories of Warren Bennis and Burt Nanus the United States of America war college adopted the concept of VUCA to describe the volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous multilateral world. With more frequent use and acceptance of the term "VUCA" gaining traction from 2002 on wards. Subsequently growing in emerging ideas in strategic leadership and generally accepted and applied across the corporate world.

Why Do People Buy?

After a long and distinguished sales career, I falsely believed I had the customer figured but they keep surprising me every time I interact with them.

A situation endemic in the world of Sales customers keep confounding marketers and shifting the goalposts till marketing budgets are depleted leaving marketing/sales executives rattled to the core.

Despite this sorry state of affairs, there are a lot of shared characteristics marketers can tap into that would solve this confusing state.

This article attempts to provide what goes on into the mind of the consumer, to assist fellow marketers to understand what motivates and encourages customers to buy and or utilize their services.

A disclaimer; I am only sharing lessons I have learned from an illustrious sales and marketing career and insights I have gleaned from reading a truckload of sales, marketing books and courses I run in my quest of making the world of sales and marketing a better place for you, for me and the entire worldly population.

The educationalists and scholars agree that the Psychology of selling rather buying is the art of understanding the mind of the consumer. Discerning what informs your target audience’s mind when buying. The experts will tell you that people buy to fulfill a need to feel good. In a nutshell at the most basic level people buy mainly to move away from discomfort; satisfy a need and or move closer to gratification; satisfy a need.

Suffice to say people buy in order to avoid pain and or to feel good. Meaning humanity is driven by the need to avoid pain, discomfort; a need to move closer to delight, pleasure, ecstasy, enjoyment, paradise etc.
To drive this point home allow me to utilize the analogy of caffeine/tea addiction. Many people are addicted to caffeine in the morning. Unless they get their ‘fix’ they usually become cranky, irritable and or get headaches.
This normally needs a painkiller to take care of the ‘PAIN/DISCOMFORT’ which leads to paying for the remedy Tea/Coffee and or PAIN MEDS at any price to get relief/’PLEASURE’ from the discomfort.

Therefore more often than not every purchase falls into either PLEASURE or PAIN category and in some exceptional circumstances both.

For instance $50 cup of coffee (pleasure), $10 Paracetamol (Pain), a luxurious top of the range motor vehicle (pleasure), Safety belts (pain) etc.

Having read this far, I can tell you are much niftier and intelligent to fall for such a simplistic parallel. As simplistic as the narrative was it is imperative you appreciate human beings are complicated animals blessed with exquisite and complex thought processes. Therefore the psychology of selling should delve deeper from the pleasure and pain analogy.

Many sales and marketing executives utilize technology and data in their market pe*******on strategies. However, these cause the executives to forget the intended audience is human. Unlike robots human beings have emotions and emotions form a great impact on their buying decision making especially when they are buying to get closer to pleasure.

For instance, people don’t buy high ticket items because it is the sensible thing to do; they buy these items because they feel (emotions are involved) something/are driven to make these purchases.

What do you mean? I hear you think; you have to make your customer feel something before they buy from you; I respond. Address their pain points then make them feel the joy and relief they will experience from utilizing your product or service and you are bound to make a sale.

After making an emotionally-charged decision to purchase, assist your customers to justify the purchase using logic. For example, I love watches; and will need to justify why I bought a $5000 watch instead of paying school fees and or clearing current debt.

So long as I blew 5k on a feel-good watch. I will need logic to explain my purchase. I cannot in good faith and right standing argue “Sweetheart, I love watches and they really make me feel good. You know expensive watches communicate success, vitality, confidence and the fact one has made it. Truth be told I have had a distinguished sales career and frankly speaking, I do not feel as successful as I dream. Hence this purchasing goes a loooonnnnggg way in alleviating this fear”.

Rest assured this will not be my explanation but I will need a ‘logical’ explanation. An 'intelligent' narrative that sounds more like this. “My dear, you know this is one hardy watch. That suits perfectly well to my lifestyle besides it keeps up to date with time, date and seconds. Because I do not like to be kept waiting I have purposed to never keep others waiting hence the 'investment'” blah, blah, blah...

Psst; make sure after activating your customers' emotions you give them a logical explanation of their purchase and they will love you to heaven and back.

Lastly but not the least people buy because other people buy. From my experience both as a sales and marketing executive and a consumer, I can tell you without fear of contradiction that peer pressure informs most of the purchases people make. People buy what other people are buying; you can bet on this and bank on it.

Many a time I have bought clothes and shoes I observed looking good on others this is what the experts and scholars call ‘Herd Mentality’ the long and short of herd mentality/mob psychology is people are influenced by others accept irrational emotionally charged behaviour.

At a basic level herd/Mob Psychology is driven by ‘Credibility’ meaning people are buying this product or service because it is good and also the urge to be part and parcel of the pack.

Therefore as a marketer ensure your product stands head and shoulders above the rest by creating a product or service that not only satisfies a need but is good looking and practical to many as well.

There you have it people buy motivated by the need to get closer to pleasure or get further away from pain, discomfort and peer pressure. Hence, imperative as you market your product or service you be keenly aware of what your intended customer need is. Ensure you not only activate their emotions but give them logical reasons to buy from you, ensure your product is also practical and good, appealing to the masses to trigger herd/mob psychology.

If this is executed effectively rest assured your product or service will stand head and shoulders above the others consequently making you lots of profits and in the process a great success.

“Everybody is a Genius. But If You Judge a Fish by Its Ability to Climb a Tree, It Will Live Its Whole Life Believing that It is Stupid” Albert Einstein
After many years of toiling and struggling to ‘succeed’; and scaling mind blowing heights dined with the finest and travelled quite a bit; and also made bad excruciatingly painful decisions and experienced mind boggling failures.
I have developed an excessive intellectual curiosity that drives me to seek clarity on matters of life. I have learned potential and level of intellect is neither innate nor fixed. I have learned from experience, that after attaining certain potential you increase and change. Meaning your potential in one situation greatly differs in a dissimilar situation.
In my quest for success, I have also learned many of the laws most people play by were designed to stifle their potential and hinder progress. Therefore, in the game of life you ought to design your own rules.
Over and above these you should not accept nor view certain individuals as ‘Superior’ because the moment you view and accept those that have achieved great and amazing things as ‘exclusive’ you deny yourself the possibility of achieving what they have achieved. You limit your potential for success.
I have learned that the so-called super achievers view self and others as ‘ordinary people’ thus they do not focus on status, class or creed; meaning they do not have any limitations which enables them to concentrate only on achieving whatever they intend to by playing on a level playing field among ordinary people.
This mind-set will allow you to develop and transform thyself unlocking a vicious circle of growth and transformation as you play among ordinary beings.
I have also learned to shun the comfort zone. If you really want to be exceptional in something purpose to avoid the known and position yourself directly in uncomfortable conditions where pain and uncertainty are inevitable, in such environs you are certain to grow and expand. Fearlessness is the path requisite to achieving greatness in life. The capability to attempt something that might not work, to be fully liberated and experience the thrill, power, influence and authority that has evaded you all this while will be achieved by your willingness to jump off the cliff of certainty into the exciting vortex of the unknown.
Consequently, if you want to increase in life you have to attempt things that might not work for courage is the doorway to greatness and freedom. I am not advocating carelessness and indolence but rather taking calculated risks living life and not that which society has prescribed for you. Ensure you run your own race because there is no competition when you are competing against yourself.
If you want success and vitality in life be willing to chart your own course, you have to walk where others fear to tread. You must and should be willing to forfeit the current life you are living. If you are not prepared to be wrong, to fail in life then beloved you will never develop anything original. Subsequently success remains an unrealistic notion.
As you gradually venture into the unknown you will generate confidence that confidence will be fodder for your imagination; before you know it you will be a master of the unknown. As you look back at your day, week, month, quarter and year. You will have no choice but see change. This groundswell of movement will give you confidence and excitement that will fuel your imagination before you know it, you, my friend will be in a class of your own.
Should you have people that are holding you back it is imperative you sever those ties immediately. You must tenaciously protect what you want and believe in and reach out to individuals struggling to make something of their lives by helping where you can. Because success in life comes from helping others especially the right people succeed in life.
Purpose to prioritise the right things in life for instance if you are blessed with a family ensure they are first in all you do. Should your priorities be wrong you are guaranteed to have internal incongruence that will make you unsuccessful. If your priorities are right your life, work will be more balanced, inspired, thoughtful, and impactful subsequently more successful.
