The Jeonju North Jeolla KOTESOL group was created to build a professional layer on to the already outstanding social community which exists, here in Jeonju. The branch brings in teachers (Korean and native English speakers) from the major city and neighbouring towns, providing a forum in which teachers can exchange and debate ideas, from a professional point of view. The existence of this network

aims to raise the standard of teaching in Jeollabuk-do, as well as offering a venue for teachers (both new faces and old) to meet and socialise.

โœจ A Huge Thank You! โœจ
We want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who joined us for todayโ€™s workshop and community gathering. Thanks to your energy, ideas, and support, the afternoon was an incredible success โ€” filled with learning, laughter, and connection. ๐Ÿ’ก๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿ’ฌ

From launching our โ€œPut the Fun in Fundraiserโ€ Silent Auction to exploring practical strategies in Corrine T. Spencerโ€™s inspiring workshop on Emergency English for Non-Native Speakers, every moment was made richer by your participation. The Idea Swap Shop was buzzing with creativity, and we loved seeing so many useful tips and resources exchanged among educators.

A special shoutout to our friends at Silent Book Club Jeonju for collaborating with us and helping make the day even more meaningful. And of course, thank you to everyone who supported the Silent Auction โ€” your contributions directly help us grow and create more events like this. ๐Ÿ™Œ
We truly had so much fun together, and we couldnโ€™t have done it without YOU. ๐Ÿ’–
Hereโ€™s to building a stronger, supportive teaching community โ€” one event, one idea, and one connection at a time. See you at our next gathering! ๐ŸŽ‰!

On June 7th we had our first official workshop at Jeonbuk National University in the education building. We had new people attend and a large room.

Gabriela Villafradez presented Beyond the Classroom: Teaching English through Cooking and Art. She feels that students need human interaction to learn languages so she experimented using British ads and cooking to create group based interaction and both verbal and nonverbal communication. She also used task and project based learning. With authentic input, you get real life communication.

Our second workshop had Yuying Kang's How to Use PRAAT Software for Research and Teaching. She demonstrated PRAAT, which is a research application used to record voices. Her demonstration included many people speaking English, which we listened to, and then had to guess ethnic origins and countries. I felt like a version of Henry Higgins in "My Fair Lady" listening to recordings of Eliza Doolittle and guessing where she is from.

We're making plans this summer for our autumn events. Stay tuned! Be on the lookout for our next gathering the first weekend of September.

In addition, The English Connection summer edition is out. Get in touch if you'd like to take a look at one.

You'll see within its pages that there's an article by one of our own JNJ members!

Also, head over to the International conference website (as can be found with the QR Code) to check out the Displays page. vendors are still open for business!

Earlier this month, there was the KOTESOL International Conference. So rather than more classroom time with workshops, we decided to head outdoors and get a feel for our new home base: Jeonbuk National University.
It was a really great day!
We look forward to welcoming many participants for our first workshop here on June 7th.
