Visit with us Wollamsaji Temple

Located in the northern region of Gangjin, Jeollanam-do, amidst the southern slopes of Mount Wolchulsan, lies the historic site of Wollamsa-ji Temple.

Positioned just beyond the renowned Muwisa Temple, its origins remain shrouded in mystery. While historical documents from the 16th century attribute its founding to the monk Hyesim during the Goryeo Dynasty, recent excavations in the 2010s unearthed remnants dating back to the Baekje Kingdom, suggesting an earlier inception.

Although its layout mirrors typical Buddhist temples of the Unified Silla period, the existing structures, including the revered east pagoda designated as Korean Treasure #298, trace their roots to the Goryeo era.

The temple's decline is believed to coincide with the devastation of the Imjin War, with subsequent records indicating its demise, leaving only the neighboring Muwisa Temple standing in the aftermath.

Let’s make Gochujang [고추장]!

Gochujang, a cornerstone of Korean cuisine, undergoes a meticulous process of fermentation and aging to achieve its signature spicy, sweet, and savory flavor profile.

Made from fermented soybeans, glutinous rice powder, red chili powder, and salt, the preparation involves crafting Meju, a fermented soybean brick, which is then combined with other ingredients and left to ferment for several months to years.
This fermentation process, aided by beneficial microorganisms, develops the distinct taste and aroma of gochujang.

Once matured, it is strained and packaged for use in a variety of dishes, contributing its rich umami taste and fiery kick to classics like bibimbap and bulgogi.

Are you ready to embark on a culinary adventure and discover the rich flavors of Korean cuisine with the versatile and flavorful gochujang?
