פסטיבל הנובה היה אירוע חסר תקדים מבחינה עולמית: הפעם הראשונה שבה טראומה המונית מתרחשת על מׁשַנֵּי תודעה.

במחקר ענק ופורץ דרך, בהשתתפות מי משורדי המסיבה שהיה תחת השפעה, חוקרים איך הסמים השפיעו על עיבוד הפגיעה, למי מהניצולים הם דווקא סייעו להימלט, ואיך חוזרים לחיים אחרי שראית את המוות בעיניים דלוקות לרווחה.

פרופסור סלומון, ראש המעבדה לחקר המודעות והעצמי במחלקה למדעי הקוגניציה באוניברסיטת חיפה, מספר: "יש לי חיבור אישי למסיבות ולפסיכדליה, גם תיאורטית וגם קונקרטית. אני מחובר לקהילה. רצינו להגיע לכמה שיותר אנשים, וכמה שיותר מהר - התערבות ראשונית חשובה כדי לצמצם את המעבר מטראומה לפוסט־טראומה, בטיפול אישי עם מטפלים מוסמכים. בגלל שאנחנו באים מתוך השבט של הטראנס, אנשים ראו שאכפת לנו, פתחו את הלב וסיפרו דברים שאולי לא היו מספרים לפסיכולוג של קופת חולים".

קבוצת המטפלים שהקים פרופסור סלומון הפכה לעמותת "לב בטוח". אחד ממייסדיה הוא הפסיכותרפיסט יגאל טרטקובסקי, שמשתף: "אחד מהסיפורים שנחרתו בי מהנובה הוא של מטופלת שתיארה איך הסתתרה מאחורי עץ והרגישה שהיא איתו בתקשורת, שהעץ מגן עליה. בתוך כל הזוועה היא הרגישה שמוּרה וחשה הודיה גדולה לטבע שסביבה, שמגן עליה.

מי שלוקח משׁנֵּי תודעה נוהג לתזמן את העלייה של החומרים עם הזריחה, לכן המתקפה הגיעה בשלב הכי אינטנסיבי של הטריפ. היו שתיארו שבהתחלה לא ידעו אם הם רואים רקטות או זיקוקים; חלק סיפרו שהחומרים דווקא סייעו להם בבריחה, מבחינת גיוס של אנרגיה זמינה, במיוחד אלה שלקחו חומרים ממריצים;

אצל רבים מהם, ברגע שהבינו שהם בסיטואציה של חיים או מוות, האדרנלין עלה וגבר על ההשפעות של החומרים; והיו גם כאלה שלקחו חומרים יותר מאלחשים, שיותר קשה לצאת מהם, כמו קטמין, והיו תחת מתקפה חושית חזקה שעירפלה להם את התודעה, סירבלה אותם פיזית ולקח להם יותר זמן להתארגן. זה עובד לכל הכיוונים.

יש אנשים שדיווחו שהצליחו להתאפס ולרוץ, אבל כשהגיעו למקום מסתור, במיגונית או בשיח, והאדרנלין טיפה נרגע, חזרו להם הוויזואליה והתופעות הפסיכדליות. את חלק מהאנשים זה נורא בילבל, אבל אחרים סיפרו שזה מאוד עזר להם לראות את האירוע בפרספקטיבה שונה. אנשים סיפרו שהיו ממש בשיחה עם אלוהים"
