✈️ Emirates, one of the world’s largest cargo carriers, is expanding its fleet with an order of five Boeing 777F freighters to meet the growing demand 📦. Dubai continues to strengthen its role as a global logistics hub 🌍.

The airline also signed a multi-year lease extension agreement with Dubai Aerospace Enterprise (DAE) to retain four 777Fs already in service 🔄.

By December 2026, Emirates SkyCargo will operate 21 Boeing 777F freighters, up from its current fleet of 11 freighters 📊🚛.

Sri Lanka’s new government has abandoned plans to sell the debt-ridden national airline, SriLankan Airlines ✈️, but will restructure it for a more profitable future.

“President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has instructed that the airline should be an institution all Sri Lankans are proud of and owned by Sri Lankans,” said Sarath Ganegoda, the airline’s new chairman 🇱🇰.

The previous government had invited bids to sell 49%of the airline, retaining 51% control. However, the process stalled as none of the interested parties pre-qualified.

Though SriLankan Airlines reported an operating profit for April 2022 to March 2023, the accumulated debt stands at $1.2 billion 💸. The airline plays a key role in tourism, bringing in 50% of tourist traffic and supporting Sri Lanka’s ambitious goals of 3 million arrivals next year and 5 million by 2030🌍🏖️.

Ganegoda emphasized that restructuring the airline will be essential to strengthen its balance sheet 📊, ensuring it contributes to the nation’s growth sustainably.

🌏✨ SLAITO Elects Nalin Jayasundera as New President Aiming for Strategic Growth & Innovation

The Sri Lanka Association of Inbound Tour Operators (SLAITO) 🏝️, the apex body representing Destination Management Companies (DMCs) in Sri Lanka, held its 44th AGM at Heritance Ahungalla 🏨 last Friday. Mr. Nalin Jayasundera, Managing Director of Aitken Spence Travels, was unanimously elected as the new president 👏.

Established in 1975, SLAITO—formerly known as the Association of Group Tour Agents (AGTA)—is a key player in the formal tourism sector, consisting of over 200 DMCs. It works closely with government bodies like the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) 🏢 and the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) to steer tourism policies.

The AGM brought together industry leaders, including representatives from SLTDA, SLTPB, and SLCB, alongside other tourism associations and stakeholders.

🆕 New Office Bearers for 2024/25:
- President: Nalin Jayasundera – Aitken Spence Travels
- Vice Presidents: Bobby Jordan Hansen – Columbus Tours & Gayangi Wirasinha – Abercrombie & Kent

He called for the swift launch of the global tourism marketing campaign 📈, airport expansions ✈️, and highway development projects 🚧. Nalin also stressed the need for fair regulations, sustainable practices 🌱, and solutions to address workforce challenges.
