Greetings to everyone!
It was our pleasure to participate in Cooltur Luxembourg event supported by Ville de Luxembourg
📜«All people are the same, only their habits differ» Confucius
Last Thursday at the event "Dining beyond borders" organized by Cooltur Luxembourg, Lëtzebuerg City Museum and Ville de Luxembourg we listened to Angela Domasyova a real expert art of the table and contemporary etiquette.
Table manners are part of the cultural and economic development of any civilization. They follow a specific logic and are linked to the history of each country. We have travelled from ancient Egypt to our times.
For instance, we discovered that spoons are believed to be the first utensils used by humans. They mimic the shape of a cupped hand. The first spoons were found in the ruins of Ancient Egypt, and dated back to 1000 BC. First use of the table fork instead in Western Europe is associated with the Byzantine empire.
Angela's presentation allowed us to reply to interesting questions such as : how tables manners in the Middle East differ from the Asian ones ? Do you know the dining etiquette for eating with your hands ? What is service à la "française" ? What is service à la "russe" ? Why the form of a table shapes our conversations? Why small talks are not so "small*?
The presentation went through many very interesting aspects of art of the table in the different cultures.
Thank you Angela and Luxembourg School of Contemporary Etiquette 🍽
