To open or not to open the oven door while baking.

If you are baking cookies (8-10 min. cooking time), you can open the oven door for a couple of seconds to turn the tray around BUT never open the oven door while baking a cake!

30 seconds of an open door can cause the temperature to drop by up to 150 degrees F. Even a few seconds of cold air can cause a cake to sink and the oven can take up to 10 minutes to get back to the correct temperature.

VANILLA CAKE RECIPE .

The ingredients you will need to make this cake are:
12oz / 340g / 3 cups – Self Raising Flour
12oz/ 340g / 1 1/2 cups – Butter
12oz/ 340g / 1 1/2 cups – Caster Sugar
4 eggs
2tbsp – Vanilla Essence / Flavouring

I then bake my cake in 2x 6 inch round cake tins for around 45 minutes on the middle shelf of a normal oven at 180 degrees. I don’t actually use my fan over when baking cakes as it tends to bake the cakes quicker on the outside so you get this hard crusty shell and the mixture is not baked all the way through.

For the buttercream you will need:
18oz/ 500g / 2 1/4 cups – Icing Sugar
9oz/ 250g / 1 1/4 cups – Butter
1tbsp – Vanilla Essence / Flavouring
2.5tbsp – Milk.
