Let's talk ceremony music, which is so often overlooked. Whyyyyy?! 😫

Ceremony music actually starts at least half an hour before your ceremony kicks off, as guests arrive. It also covers any key songs during the ceremony like aisle song, certificate signing (if you're doing this as part of your ceremony) and your big ceremony finish tune, plus post-ceremony cocktail hour.

We know we're not alone in the wedding industry when we say you really should have a professional looking after tunes for this important part of the day, whether that's:

✨ Your DJ, either playing through their decks (if the set up allows) or from an iPad or other mobile device.

✨ Live musicians, whether it's a solo singer/guitarist, duo or larger band.

✨ The venue's event manager/coordinator, if it's something they do regularly.

✨ Your celebrant (MAYBE - check with them as it will depend on what other devices they're holding to read their script, etc - it's a lot for one person to manage).

Sure, you could get Steve to hit play on your aisle song, but he'll probably just stop the song abruptly instead of a nice gentle fade down. Also, poor Steve doesn't want the pressure - he just wants to enjoy the day!

Make sure you chat to your venue / celebrant / planner / DJ about what's with happening with ceremony music so it's not left to the last minute.

After a little break between episodes, we are back in your ear holes for another episode of our wedding podcast, Project Engaged! 👌

MARRIED! Beautiful Sophie and Ben put the cherry on top of their 6 years together today and made it official.
Their cavoodles walked the aisle with their bridal party, followed by Soph and Ben together. Their entry track Love is in the Air had everyone in the mood for fun from the start.
There were laughs and tears- even Ben’s stiff upper lip got the wobbles. Achievement unlocked Soph!
They smashed out their vows then went back up the aisle amidst a storm of petals and one of Hall and Oates best.
That was a ripper. Congratulations guys!

Although we have to play to EVERYONE at your wedding, we also want to make sure our couples know we're ultimately they're for them. So what do we do with those song requests that are uniquely you?

We pepper them in! 👌

It's super important to us that you put your own stamp on your wedding soundtrack. We get that you may have some obscure requests for tunes you absolutely love that may not necessarily be appreciated by all.

Fear not - as experienced, open format DJs, we work hard to get the balance right between recognisable crowd-pleasing classics and your personal faves. We'll choose the right part of the night to drop those in (it may be earlier in the eve, around three drinks deep) and look to you for that little wink / nod of approval. 😉

We love a good cover that respects the original but has its own flair that reflects the artist. So it's probably no surprise that we absolutely loved the 2023 Triple J Hottest 100 countdown of ‘Like a Version’ last week!

So much so, in fact, that we were inspired and have picked out our Top 20 tunes that could be played at a wedding! 👌

Our list includes a variety of tunes with different energy levels. Some are more mellow and would be great for pre-ceremony or even your ceremony and reception key songs (eg. aisle song, certificate signing or first dance), some are fun and upbeat (great for dinner or cocktail hour) and others are late night singalongs and bangers.

On episode 27 of season 3 of our wedding podcast, Project Engaged, we chat to another wedding business duo, and we were so excited! It’s also the first time we’re talking about film too! 💖

Caity & Duncan are a couple of wedding photographers and videographers based in Melbourne (who also happen to be a couple!). Aleks Mac had the pleasure of working with them on a really fun North Fitzroy wedding earlier this year. As Aleks was involved in the ceremony they spent all day together and she was struck by how warm and friendly they both are. An absolute joy to be around.

We've just come off the back of 6 days of the in Bali (on holiday, not working!). ☀️

In very fortuitous fashion, we were joined by the absolute legends that are Claire and Andrew, owners of wedding venue . We happened to see them the day before at the annual wedding industry CoC party and then a few hours later (at 7am!), we were all sipping bubbles together at the airport lounge!

If you're looking for a venue in Red Hill, you MUST check Butterfly out. You really get to know people when you're on holiday with them (we all stayed in the same resort), and these two fun, warm, funny and generous souls will bloody look after you! 💜

Oh, and apart from our wonderful travel companions, the holiday really was a dream, filled with days of amazing DJs and artists like Client Liaison and Peking Duk, too many Bintangs, delicious food and hours of swimming and dancing.

PS - soooo much disco, funky house and 90s dance at the pool parties and on the main stage. We were in heaven!! 😍

Gorgeous snap from a guest at last Saturday's wedding for Wendy and Michael, featuring our always-smiling sax man Kenny! 🎷

Wendy and Michael lapped up their big day, which was a long time coming. The couple had booked us in sometime in between (or during?!) 2021 lock downs, so were well up for a party once Saturday rolled around!

Did you want us to look after the music for your whole day, including your ceremony? No worries! 👍🏼

A lot of our couples initially book us for their reception and add on extra time and equipment later to cover tunes for pre-ceremony guest arrival, ceremony key songs and cocktail hour!

Here's a quick summary of how it works:

🎶 When your ceremony is in a different spot to where our DJ decks and speakers are set up, we keep it simple by using a small but powerful Bose speaker (no power required – it’s charged ahead of time).

🎶 We'll play music through an iPad or iPod (plugged into the speaker) using special DJ software.

🎶 For pre-ceremony and post-ceremony (cocktail hour), we put together playlists tailored to our couples’ music tastes and run it through our software so the transitions sound slick.

🎶 The beauty of our compact little set up is we can literally pick up the speaker and move it to your cocktail hour location!
