🌑 BABEL Bio:
Born in the vibrant city of Mohammedia, BABEL is a sonic force that blends Moroccan roots with rock’s global energy. Formed in 2007 by five musicians united by passion and purpose, BABEL crafts a rich fusion of rock, heavy, blues, and traditional influences, delivering electrifying soundscapes that channel raw emotion and cultural depth.
At the heart of this powerhouse is Adil Bouaouad (vocals), whose journey began in 1991 in Mohammedia’s city choir as a bass soloist. His classical training and concert experience, including duets of Verdi with an ex-Paris Opera baritone, shaped a powerful, expressive voice. In 2010, after years fronting local rock groups, Adil joined BABEL, and with them, won Best Fusion Band at Génération Mawazine 2011. This led to a national tour and their breakout single and music video “Feels So Right”, produced by Grammy awarded RedOne.
On bass is Yassine Ajebli, also from Mohammedia, who began his musical journey after discovering Jason Newsted. Initially self-taught on a 4-string bass, he evolved to 5-string and joined BABEL at its inception in 2007. His rhythmic pulse has anchored the band ever since. Alongside the group, Yassine shared the Génération Mawazine 2011 victory and subsequent national acclaim.
Driss Benkiran, born in Mohammedia, took to the drums at 14 after a transformative moment watching Metallica. His powerful yet versatile style draws from System of a Down, RHCP, Nickelback, and Foo Fighters. As BABEL’s drummer since 2007, he was part of the band’s major milestones, including the RedOne collaboration and performances across Morocco. His drive and precision shape the band’s explosive live energy.
Guitarist Mahfoud Janadi, born in Laâyoune, joined BABEL in 2014 and quickly became known for his melodic, Petrucci-inspired solos. Though originally a drummer, he transitioned to guitar and played in numerous groups including El Amal, Sahara Street, and Soor, performing at festivals such as Al Azawane, Chiâr Al Hassani, and French Institute events. His depth and stage experience enriched BABEL’s evolving sound.
Rounding out the lineup is Othmane El Azzaoui, born in Casablanca, who fell in love with rock at age 11 through his father's cassette tapes. Gifted his first Stratocaster, Othmane dove into blues and rock guitar, later performing nationally with multiple pop and rock groups. His distinctive tone and dynamic stage presence bring youthful fire to the BABEL legacy.
