The saltwater mangrove (kulhi) on the north side of L. Maabaidhoo is connected to the sea, serving as a nursery for reef species. It hosts Red Mangrove (Ran’doo) and Yellow Mangrove (Karamana) and plays a vital role in cleansing the freshwater lens, preventing soil erosion, and protecting against floods. Additionally, it acts as a carbon sink, helping reduce global warming.
