Prestige Whisky Tastings went online for the first time just before the C19 pandemic struck. All classes and face-to-face tastings were canceled, and it's been more than a year since we've been active.
The whisky tasting world adapted, however. Take a look at what Glengoyne has to offer...

According to my journals, it was nine years ago today that I had four Japanese whisky bottles lined up in front of me for a comparative tasting:
The Yamazaki 12yo
Nikka Yoichi 12yo
The Hakushu 12yo
Nikka Miyagokyo 12yo
Of the four, I chose The Yamazaki 12yo as the favorite.
And that was nine years ago. Today I could barely afford four bottles of the same. Japanese whiskies are in demand, distilleries are in full production, and prices have gone beyond what they're worth.

What's trending? Blended malts.
Even if you're not crazy about blended malts (like Monkey Shoulder), you've certaily heard the bar buzz on them.
My favorite? Naked Grouse.
Known for years as ‘vatted malts’, they’re a style that almost vanished from the whisky universe thanks to years in the doldrums. Now blended malts are back in fashion, as Iain Russell reports.

Highland Park is closing its Viking Legend series of limited edition whiskies with Valfather, said to be the distillery’s peatiest whisky to date.
Scotch is in my DNA. My grandparents would sip their Inver House Rob Roys every evening at happy hour, and when I became domestic enough, I sipped Dewar's White Label on the rocks.
By the early 90s, my curiosity about "single malts" got the best of me, and I bought my first bottle randomly -- a Laphroaig 10yo.
I still remember knocking back that first sip.
Peated whiskies are still my favorites. Here's a menu for you to explore.

Good that Japan is laying down some regulations. In the long run it will add value to their reputation.
Sad, however, about this jewel...

Not every bottle is smoky enough to set off a fire alarm—but sometimes that's the most interesting kind.
My earliest bottles were always from Islay and I never had a taste for Highland expressions -- too soft, too sweet, too malty. Ten years ago, however, I expanded my horizons and sampled Glengoyne, Balvenie, Dalmore...
Turns out soft, sweet, and malty can be quite nice, actually -- sometimes even damn interesting.
This was my first bottle from Macallan.

Hello Everyone -
On Friday, 18 December 2020, Whisky Essentials goes live online 7:30-9:30pm.
In our 2-hour webinar, we'll begin with an overview of how to choose a bottle of whisky, where distilling originates, and how scotch whisky is produced. Then we'll do a live tasting together.
How are we going to do that? When you sign up, I'll send you a package with five superb-quality samples (50ml ea) spanning the whisky flavor palate AND a FREE whisky tasting glass. We'll open them up together during the webinar and I'll walk you through the traditional five-step manner of tasting -- and then we'll share our experience.
All online.
For novices and afficionados alike.
Just 12 seats available. Limited to Malaysia for now.
Reserve your place today.
Since we can't get together, this course has got to go online. Let me know what you'd like to hear about in an abbreviated session:
1. How do you choose a bottle?
2. Where does whisky come from (history)?
3. How is scotch whisky produced?
Once we run through a session together, we'll arrange an online tasting.
THAT will be an experience.
As an investment, whisky appreciates faster than Bitcoin. If you're liquid enough (no pun intended) a few limited edition bottles (or a cask of your own!) can earn you some extra cash.
