What a special day it was, getting to photograph Jane and Kevin’s wedding! (Fun fact: the bride’s name is also Jane!) It felt like two assignments rolled into one, I was their sole photographer capturing the wedding, and I also set up a fun scrapbook booth. This is what happens when a photographer really loves scrapbooking! I whipped up everything just a few days before (it was a last-minute request) and brought their guestbook vision to life. The guests got so creative! They wrote heartfelt messages and decorated the guestbook with stickers, photos, and Instax prints, using all the stationery supplies I provided. It was such a hit! OMG YES, EVERY WEDDING SHOULD HAVE A SCRAPBOOK STATION✨ It was actually two special assignments in one day— I was the sole photographer capturing the wedding, and I also had a fun scrapbook booth set up. Huge thanks to my friend for helping out! It was such a special day, especially getting to photograph Jane and Kevin's wedding (yep, the bride's name is also Jane 😌). This is what happens when a photographer loves scrapbooking 🎨🖌️✂️ I prepared everything just few days before (it was a last minute request) and brought the guestbook to life! The guestbook I gave the couple as their 'scrapbook' guestbook is by 🤍 All the guests got so creative, writing their messages and decorating the guestbook with stickers, photos, and Instax prints using all the stationery supplies I provided. The idea totally worked out! These are the photos I took from the day (of course, I can’t wait to share more). Scroll towards the last few images where you’ll see the couple sitting down to look at their guestbook— because I wouldn’t let them near the station during the event, haha, it was a surprise! I’ve filmed some vlogs and can’t wait to share more soon!

When Derrick and Chien mentioned they’d feel super awkward in front of my camera even before we agreed on a shoot, I thought, “Oh, here we go again!” Almost every couple says the same thing—90% of them, actually. "We found Jane 2 weeks before the planned travel and shoot date. The main aim was to have something more authentic and intimate. She was so professional but yet casual in a good way, which helped us warm up really fast and the photos that came out was STUNNINGGG!! We are so so so happy with the photos and we had such an enjoyable experience with Jane. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️"

Google reviews and testimonials aren't super common here in Asia (Malaysia), so it was such a nice surprise to get a 5-star review from Stephanie! The first photo you're seeing was snapped just as the couple and I met, and they were already laughing and having fun. I knew right away that this session was going to be amazing, even though it was just a quick 2-hour shoot. I always tell my couples that it might feel a bit awkward at first, but as long as you're having a good time and just being yourselves, that awkwardness will fade away before you know it, and we'll have a blast capturing some great moments—just like we did. "I knew that Jane was the photographer we are looking for during our first meeting when she told us that she would perhaps edit photos in terms of color and lighting but will never edit them to make someone look more "attractive" or "slimmer". We really appreciate the transparency in communicating expectations on both ends.

We felt that we could just be our crazy silly selves without pretending and posing for the camera too much, and I say this not just for the bride and groom but also the bridesmaids and groomsmen. I was especially impressed by the photos taken for the tea ceremony because I originally thought that it would be quite boring since it was just us repeating the act of serving tea to different people, but Jane manages to capture the raw emotions of all our family members in the most honest way.

I remember her dragging us to the carpark of the restaurant because she thinks that it is more beautiful than the garden, and the photos were indeed gorgeous (Thank you Jane, we wouldn't have realised, what a good find)! We are also really impressed that she was able to capture the moments through the wedding from so many perspectives just by herself.

The photographs that we have received are not just mere images, one can really read stories through her works. It was an amazing experience and we couldn't be more grateful that Jane was our photographer."

"When will you do a photography workshop?"

I remember getting asked this question within my first 3-4 years of shooting. I've always been a perfectionist, so I wanted to build my confidence and skills first. I attended workshops myself—Singapore in 2016, a photography conference in Barcelona in 2017, and another one in Bali in 2018.

Now, after nearly 12 years in photography, I finally took the plunge and hosted a small workshop during the quieter days of the pandemic in 2021 and again earlier this year in January 2024.

How was it? It was great because I did it my way. Instead of focusing on technicalities or marketing (although I love those too), I taught about the importance of connecting and storytelling.

Here are some photos taken with my Sony camera while teaching at the same time in a local busy market. Thank you to Felicia and her husband, who were married years ago—a wedding I also had the pleasure of witnessing. I recreated a similar scene where they announced their love, and I felt Felicia needed that moment. It was truly touching.

I am considering doing another workshop in a quieter setting next time, where everyone can perform at their best.

Yes, it was just a pre-wedding photo session with Quin and Alex.

Shooting in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, can be quite challenging. The weather feels like summer year-round, making it hard to get perfect shots without sweating and messing up hairstyles. But sometimes, we get beautiful sunsets that make it worth it. The city is bustling, hugging and kissing may seem an odd thing to do in public here..These are obstacles, but I try to adapt.

Their poses were simple; the photos weren't like ad posters, but capturing the genuine connection between Quin and Alex made it special.

Both of them came to me at noon, and we went to a nice villa they had booked. Kudos to them for making the effort. We checked in, Alex changed, and Quin showed me a bag of junk food—well-prepared for the session. Quin's cute pouts and tone made me realize she was comfortable with me.

Building trust is essential. I've learned this from photographing many couples. There's a warm-up period during the first 5-10 minutes, and I add surprises sometimes, like asking them to write letters to each other. Quin teared up reading her letter to Alex, a beautiful moment I captured like a ninja.

I saw a huge connection between them, an effort to be lovers, soulmates, lifelong partners. It's a beautiful thing to witness, like being a love psychologist.

They had custom rings and saw them for the first time that day. We did a little ring exchange ceremony, which was lovely. I finally found a couple with fingers as cute as mine, haha!

Both were super relaxed, had minimal expectations, and gave me all the creative freedom. A friend once said couples who follow my suggestions tend to have lasting love. Watching them laughed together and embraced the awkward moments—which I find it sweet and heartwarming.

So, do you still think this is just some pre-wedding photos? There's certainly more than that.
