1. The Old Way: BLR (Base Lending Rate)

>Used for loans before January 2015.
>The rate was largely set by the Central Bank (BNM), meaning it was usually the same across all banks.
>Your final interest rate was calculated as: BLR - a variable 'Discount'
>The catch? Transparency was low. It was hard to see the bank's true cost and profit margin because they were hidden in that 'discount'.

2. The New Way: BR (Base Rate)

>Used for loans between January 2015 and July 2022.
>The rate is set by the individual Bank, reflecting its own efficiency and cost of funds.
>Your final interest rate is calculated as: BR} + a clear 'Spread'
>The benefit? Transparency is high! Banks must clearly show their Spread (which is their profit margin and risk charge). This made it easier for you to compare offersโ€”the bank with the lowest 'Spread' was the better deal!๐ŸŽฏ
