The much anticipated World Ocean Day celebration is today, Friday, June 7th at the Independence Beach in Walvis Bay.

According to the official programme, the day will start with a street parade at 7:30 a.m from the open area opposite Cymot. The programme at the venue will start at 8:30 a.m (arrival of the members of the public) and will conclude at 12:00 p.m.

His Excellency, the President of the Republic Namibia, Dr Nangolo Mbumba will officiate the event.

Henties Bay celebrates World Ocean Day

The Coastal town of Henties Bay kicked off its World Ocean Day celebrations on 03, June 2024, with a lively parade and program featuring an address from the town Mayor His Worship, Lewies Vermaak.

Additionally, the town will host educational sessions to engage youth and the community on ocean awareness.

The official World Ocean Day commemoration, themed 'Waves of Change: Collective Actions for the Oceans,' will be held in Walvis Bay on Friday. June 7, 2024.

Various coastal towns will join in with their own celebrations throughout the week leading up to the main event.

World Oceans Day - 08 June 2022

All local fishing companies, parastatals, government agencies, non – government organisations and community groups are hereby invited to participate in a clean-up campaign in commemoration of World Ocean Day.

Participants are free to clean any beach area of their choice. However, there will be a gathering commencing at 08:00 at Kuisebmond Beach, after which His Worship the Mayor of Walvis Bay, Cllr. Trevino Forbes will give an address.

The Municipality of Walvis Bay will provide black refuse bags and disposable gloves to participants as well as collecting the filled bags from the beaches after the clean-up. For black plastic bags and gloves please contact Riaan Archer at 081 129 5017 at least 2 days before the clean-up.
