iREP CELEBRATES WOLE SOYINKA @90

The 2024 iREPRESENT International Documentary Film Festival will be held from 21-24 March, 2024 at the Freedom Park and Alliance Francaise respectively alongside Underserved communities like Ikorodu, Bariga, and Alakoto, Lagos.

Themed Righting The Future, it comes with a special feature - The Soyinka's Edition, to focus on Soyinka & His Engagements. On day one, a keynote in this regard will be delivered by Prof Manthia Diawara, writer, filmmaker, cultural theorist, scholar, art historian, and distinguished Professor of Comparative Literature and Film at the New York University.

Reputed for its unique contents, iREP 2024 commemorates our own Professor Oluwole Akinwande Soyinka @90 - "distinguished global cultural icon, poet, playwright, essayist, polemicist and Africa’s first Nobel laureate
for literature. We are opportune to be witnesses and partakers of this awesome moment in our annals.

FESTIVAL OF BOARD GAMES

Like fruit from a willing tree, the board game festival is a gift of creativity that has dropped at the nick of time and a pioneering experience that will appeal to you, your family and friends. Meanwhile, you don't have to be a professional player of any board game to participate in this all- day of fun. It's featuring, scrabble, chess, ludo, "ayo", monopoly, whot, draft etc. Music, dance and refreshment will be on hand as icing to a day of walking hands on different board games.

Register to participate as lots of prizes will be won. Come with your friends for a weekend of fun.

Mr Eriata Oribhabor has invested so much energy, time and financial resources in the development of poetry, art and the youth in Nigeria for more than a decade. I first him around 2009 or 2010 in Minna, Niger State during one of ANA Writers' Spell programme, it was the edition that featured Terfa Danjuma Nenger. It was that event that Mr Eriata and became acquainted and he had promised at once to invite me to Abuja for a literary evening. This did not happen till around 2012 or 2013 during one of the Poets for Change event held at the Savanah Hotel, Abuja, that we met again. He accommodated us and put us featured us in the events. Saddiq M Dzukogi, Terfa Danjuma Nenger and I all performed on that stage.

Several years later, he would invite me as a guest writer to the PIN Poetry Festival in Calabar. We have had a great and impactful relationship that is more than a decade and he has taught me so many lessons of life. He consider me a friend and treats me as such even though he can give birth to me biologically. He is a simple, selfless and influential literary activist. He has touched the lives of so many young creatives, especially poets all around Nigeria. For him, poetry is the vehicle with which to engage the youth and empower them to believe in themselves and creativity. He believes that a creative youth that is empowered is a functional citizen that will contribute to the development of the society. He has sponsored several literary prizes including the PIN Student Poetry Prize, Food Poetry Prize, Spoken Word Poetry Prize, just to mention a few.

Consequently, the World Poetry Movement Nigeria and Splendors of Dawn Poetry Foundation are pleased to celebrate the greatness of a man that has contributed so much to our society for the upliftment of young people. Thus, the theme for this discourse is apt and timely as it reflects on the core of Mr. Oribhabor's cultural and literary activism to which many of us are witnesses. So, kind join us on the 11th of May 2023 to celebrate this icon of youth empowerment and literary development in Nigeria.

ERIATA HEIGHTS: SERVING THE UNDERSERVED VIA iREP DUCUMENTARY FILM SCREENING 2023

Despite our nation's years of political missteps tagged - One Leg Forward, Two Leg Backward (title of one of my books written in Naija Pidgin) we are determined to building a lively community of creatives from all areas of the art. Partnering with iREP in her inner city documentary film screening is a huge boost to our initiative. As we appreciate iREP for the partnership, we are looking forward to further areas of collaborations/partnerships towards functionally bringing art to people in our underserved Ikorodu community. The language of service tastes sweeter when co-creatives join ideas and resources towards the common goal of bettering a people's lot.

The opportunity of experience in any human endeavour is the uniqueness of haven seen things/issues, worked/walked through them at points in time. If underscored against the background of 'the after', how one appraises things/issues about life and living in 'the now', becomes paramount especially in the disposition to impacting positive changes in real terms.
This is the inspiration behind my book of poetry - THAT BEAUTIFUL PICTURE.
