HOW TO GROW GINGER AT HOME TO HAVE AN ENDLESS SUPPLY

Earlier this week, I shared the story about how expensive ginger has become, showing what I bought for N200. Most people requested I share the step-by-step guide on how ginger can be planted at home.

So here is a very simple guide to plant your ginger, whether on sack or the regular farm.

Step 1: Select the Right Ginger Rhizome:
Choose a firm, fresh, plump ginger rhizome with well-developed eyes.
Avoid using wrinkled, dried, or moldy rhizomes.

Step 2: Preparing the Rhizome:
Soak the rhizome in lukewarm water overnight to hydrate it.
Then, cut it into sections with one or two eyes each.

Step 3: Choosing a Container:
Use a wide, shallow container or sack with drainage holes.
Fill with well-draining soil, rich in organic matter.

Step 4: Planting and Watering:
Bury rhizome sections just below the soil surface with eyes facing up.
Water thoroughly after planting and keep soil moist as much as possible but not waterlogged.

Also, ensure that it gets enough sunlight.

Step 5: Harvesting and Enjoying: You know that your ginger is ready for harvest when the leaves turn yellow.

Unlike many other vegetables, ginger needs patience.

Usually, it is ready for harvest after 8 - 10 months.

Step 6: Store excess ginger in a cool, dry place for future use.

As you can see, there are no technicalities involved, and almost anyone can cultivate ginger.

Now that is onion is still everywhere, buy and store..
Let me teach you how to dry your onion into flakes or powder..

1. Peel and wash your onion
2. Cut into thin round shape
3. Place on a clean rack or tray.
4. Keep it in a cool place where there is good airflow until the moisture in the onion is off.
5. Then you can dry under the sun for proper drying.

If you have a dehydrator then itโ€™s easy .

You can store as flakes or grind into fine powder, the flavour is heaven.

Don't wait till it gets expensive before you stock up ๐Ÿ˜
