My music career was ruined by ‘dubious team’ - Terry G

Rapper Gabriel Oche Amanyi, popularly known as Terry G, has linked the decline of his music career to his 'deceitful team,' alleging that they undermined his endeavours.

In an Instagram post shared via his account on Sunday, January 28, Terry G accused his former management of confirming bookings without his knowledge and failing to reimburse for shows he didn't attend.

He extended apologies to affected show promoters and Disc Jockeys, commonly referred to as DJs.

The ‘Akpako Master’ crooner wrote: “To all show promoters. I worked with a dubious team (managers) which created a false narrative about me. They accepted bookings without me being aware & even refused to refund shows I didn’t attend and put the blame on me without my knowledge.

“I am only but human and I use this platform to apologize for all that. I’m happy to clear this out as it has been reasons why y’all haven’t been hearing or seeing Terry G. Thank you.”

Declaring his freedom from the ban imposed on him in the past by DJs, Terry G wrote: “To all deejays. I have been cleared from the ban I had years ago. I have settled, I’m putting this out for the great ones who haven’t heard the information since 2020 to know that I’m no longer banned by the DJ association.”

_*OPEN LETTER TO NIGERIA DJs*_.

_*MCSN AND DJAN UNDERSTANDING AS IT AFFECTS THE REGISTERED AND UNREGISTERED DJS*_.

_I am constrained to write this letter this day Tuesday the 13 days of June 2023_.
_It is worth noting that I am a critical stakeholder in DJAN as well as MCSN_.

_DJAN is an Association of professional Djs. who have agreed to come together under an umbrella to work to achieve certain critical and strategic goals that will help to enhance the Profession._

_I wouldn't want to bore you but be precise about the above Subject, so I will try to make it very short and emphatic_.
_MCSN is a non-profit Organisation that is registered as a LMT/GTE company to register and rep. Artist worldwide_.
_MCSN is the sole collective management Organisation (CMO) licensed by the Federal Government of Nigeria to collect royalties for Music and sound_,
_with the responsibility to Negotiate, Collect and distribute the same to the Artists that are registered with her_.

_Shedding light on why the MCSN has to collect remittance from the DJs_.

_Suffice to say, the Copyright Act 2022, Sec. 36 Stated thou_*: _Copyright is infringed by any person who without the authorization_*
*_of the owner of the copyright_*
_*(a) does or causes any person to do an act, which constitutes a violation of the exclusive rights conferred under this Act; one might want to ask*_
_*What an exclusive right is*; ~An exclusive right is The power, granted by the government to persons, to allow or disallow others from taking certain actions~ (through legal force)_
_Suffice to say again, that Everything that is stated in the act is binding irrespective of what an individual feel or thinks_.

_Given the foregoing, emphasizing section 44(7)states that A person who without the consent of the owner of a work in which_
_copyright subsists, communicates to the public, or makes the work available to_
_the public by wire or wireless means in such a way that members of the public_
_are able to access the work from a place and at a time individually chosen by_
_them for commercial purposes, commits an offense under this Act and is_
_liable on conviction to a fine of at least N1,000,000 or_ _imprisonment for a term_
_of at least five years or both_.
_From the above section, you can see that the Djs are liable, why they have to obtain licenses before deploying music for their business, and why criminal charges can be brought against them(DJs) as well as a civil case or both simultaneously_.

_More so, You can see that whether you are registered with DJAN or not as a DJ you are liable_.
_However, this is where DJAN executives under the Leadership of DJ Kool are smart and why her members should laud them rather than criticize them on the esteemable step they took towards making it easier for the deejays_.

_Albeit, that is where the challenge is emanating from, in the sense that most of her members are looking more at the Disadvantages rather than looking at the advantages the MCSN/DJAN understanding has brought to the Disc Jockey industry_.
_Understanding the challenge, if DJAN did not follow up diligently, it could miss manage the opportunity that the MCSN/DJAN understanding has brought to bear, also in trying to monopolize the Disk Jockey Industry through using MCSN could be extremely detrimental_.

_I will rather advise that DJAN looks inward and create a mechanism that will critically annihilate attitudes that will render her inert, thereby propelling creativity that will make DJAN attractive to unregistered DJs who are feeling DJAN is taking advantage of MCSN to foray into their space thereby coercing them to join DJAN against their wishes_.
_However, Looking at the situation critically, the Unregistered Dj should comprehend that no matter how_ _one feels about him or herself (status) Financially and otherwise, 138 thousand Naira is not a small amount of money to give away when there is an affordable alternative,_
_more so, It is good to note that the license fee on a very good day costs between 150K and above every year depending on individual classes_.

_As an unregistered Dj, what do you stand to gain in standing alone as it relates to the License_
_How can you affect your profession in such a way that posterity will embrace you?_
_In one of my engagements, a young and dynamic DJ once asked me a question: Can DJAN sanction an establishment(Hotel, Club, Lounge, etc) that treats her DJ badly?_
_I answered in the Negative, being that It will be difficult because the Nigerian DJs are not under an umbrella._
_However, should they come under an Umbrella, everything can be copacetic and DJAN can achieve everything within the context_.
_It is a win-win situation for the unregistered DJs in all ramifications should they Decide to Join DJAN_.
