MUSIC BUSINESS...

COPYRIGHT LAWS... Are artists shooting themselves in the foot? As a DJ, I have promoted a lot of music online and offline for over 2 decades... In recent years, a lot of artists started copyrighting their works which in itself is not a bad thing... I use to make online mix and live broadcast, some for short durations (which is pleasurable with about 5 to 10 songs). And some for over an hour.

Few minutes later I would receive notifications that I have used "unlawfully" a copyrighted work and most times I'll be asked to delete d video or post it with some areas of my mix muted. So I stopped making such mix entirely since I don't know which works would be a violation of such rights....

This week, I've noticed 2 of such restrictions lifted, so I ask. Have artists discovered their works ain't getting the needed reach or the copyright laws have changed?

Note: As a professional Dj, we pay a fee as COSON's fee yearly so as to have the right to use copyrighted properties of artists. Yet we are restricted. I guess DJs like myself may also have stopped...

So I ask, are artists shooting themselves in the foot by restricting DJs from using their intellectual properties...

NOT HAVING A LEADER
.. has its PROS and CONS...
As it stands, no single human alive can say "I made this happen. It's all because of me" etc... Therefore no one can take the glory... It also means, NO ONE can be bribed or paid off or kidnapped and or even intimidated... But then, it means Govt cannot come to a negotiating table...

Another downside to that is, the demands of the people cannot be strategically aligned and outlined... Therefore the protest will swing in different directions which can also make it loss momentum, because there'll come a time when I want this, and u want that and we all want different things...

And then there's the issue of strategizing; what's the strategy going forward? At what point can we truly say our demands have been met?...

This is a movement but it needs to have DIRECTION, without which, we are heading nowhere, probably heading for doom...

Let's think about it...
