Dear Nigerian women,
Except your husband is an Odogwu, if he is, skip this post.
But if he’s not this one is for you.
Make your own money o.
It’s painful to see that the moment a man’s hustle goes down, the same woman who should be the family’s support system starts begging up and down.
Even when your husband dey package things and say “we’re okay” and you know deep down that you people never reach,
find something.
Learn something.
Do something.
So you can contribute even if it’s small.
Because when life goes south, and your wife who should be a backup plan is the one running around asking for help, it shows you probably never empowered her.
Let me give you my own example:
SGM pays me tithe every month.
It’s not by force o.
She just says “this is my fuel money for you.” It’s her own way of showing appreciation.
And yes, I have received my fuel money for this month.
She might collect it back later one way or the other(and she will), but at least she gave it to me with her heart. 😂
Let me also say this clearly:
If your husband helped you, set you up, carried you from zero and gave you something to stand on—he is the one you pay tithe to.
Not your pastor.
And let me tell you as a married woman once you’re married, your money is not just not your money again like you people use to say.
It’s a backup. It’s support.
There was a time I couldn’t make up our rent.
You see that rent? It was SGM that completed it silently.
Nobody knew.
Not the type of woman that will tell CNN and BBC that she’s the one paying rent because oga’s business had issues.
Don’t be that woman
That’s what partnership should look like.
She’s a help meet.
She’s supposed to show up when others fail.
But how will she show up if you never helped her stand?
If you have two shops let your wife manage one.
Teach her your line of business.
If she’s a graduate and you’re not, use that to your advantage.
Let her be your manager. Even pay her salary so she takes it serious.
She might be the good luck charm you are looking for in your business.
Don’t raise a family where if the man falls, everybody starts begging.
Me I no dey fear anything. Because I know SGM got my back.
And you too should build that kind of partnership.
This era we’re in now partnership works better than dependency.
