......AND THE STORY CONTINUES......

On this faithful day we made plans to meet at her Airbnb location In Paris 18 which I agreed. I set up on that journey and was at the bustop for about 2hours waiting for the bus without knowing there was a diversion (no mind me I no sabi read French…lol). I was tempted to go back after I discovered this but something in me made me decide to take a walk since I discovered that there was now traffic and taking the bus from the correct route or an uber would be a wrong idea. I had to walk for about an hour and when I finally got to where we were suppose to meet she was not there so I had to wait for another 10 – 15 minutes. At this point I was already tired.

Finally she arrived and we exchanged greetings. She was one very small “chikini” girl.. LOL. Ok let me be nice ad say Lady. Hehehe!!! We gisted for a while and we connected. Honestly If anyone had told me I would be getting married to CHIDINMA I would laugh so loud as at that time she didn’t seem like the kind of woman I would want physically.( I hope I wont pay for this sha o… Iyawo please o, na beg I dey o).

We became friends, visited Paris together some of the days of her vacation. We continued communicating even after she left and we eventually became best of friends and then on a certain day we had a little chat and Gbam I got the sign that she was my wife. She was seeing someone at that time so I didn’t push it I just kept on being friends.

Fast forward to October 2019, after she has ended her previous relationship in February since it was not working, I asked her the big question, and she said “YES”

Today, I am proud to say I am getting married to the most amazing woman in the world, the best and perfect one for me. I am the most favored young man on the planet because I am spending the rest of my life with “FAVOUR” as she is popularly called in Nigeria, my best friend, prayer partner, etc.

I have always had a mindset like every young Adult of the kind of woman I would want to spend the rest of my life with. You know the norms like God fearing, beautiful, physical appearance, perfect composure, sweet packaging, high intellectual abilities and the list goes on. Aside these is the mindset of how the process should be you know, from physical attraction, to being friends, then assessment (you know if she falls into the category) after which I then make a move.

I didn’t worry so much about the God fearing part as I knew I won’t get married outside the body of Christ or a lady who doesn’t share same faith.

After having been single for a long time and facing career, in 2018 I decided it was the time to move on and get my help meet. The challenge became how to go about it. Initially I decided to go with my previous experience and as most young men would. I started looking at the female friends I had as I believed that the best woman to be my wife should be my friend. Guess what!!! It became mission impossible. I tried to see my female friends on a different view, started asking some questions to see compatibility but strangely they were not compactible in very key areas that I hold in high esteem.( I won’t share that here J)

After plenty trials to find one that suits me I ended up not finding any. So I went back to my creator and asked for His direction and trust me He guided me.

He started by giving me a sign, yes! You can say I am old fashioned but then God has His way of communicating with me. I will spare you the details and fast forward to the first day I met my soon to be wife.

I remember it was the 26th of May 2016, we had spoken a couple of times on call as she was living in the south of France at that time while I was in Paris. We had done some little business deal of money exchange. This was what started our communication. She had called me some days earlier to inform me she was visiting Paris with her friend and I offered to be her their tour guide as its my city.

A New Beginning (The Proposal)

As we grew closer and our friendship grew stronger, Ifeanyi will always tease me most times we went out together that I was going to be his wife and how he was not going to give me the space to go out of his life and we will laugh over it. Fast forward to his returning to Paris and me also relocating to Paris for my second Masters, he made his intention to spend the rest of his life with me to my parents and my pastor; who consented and gave their blessings.

On 18 October 2019, I got a call from a family friend of Ifeanyi’s, Abigail, (the chief accomplice in the surprise proposal). Abigail hosts a relationship program on Instagram and Facebook, she invited me to be a guest speaker on the show, which was scheduled to take place the following Friday. I accepted her invitation even though it was a bit tight for me; as I had an all-night in Church that same day. We pre-rehearsed over the phone on the day before the event.

On October 25, 2019, the proposed day of the program, I got dressed and made my way to Abigail’s place; little did I know that it was a setup. Upon my arrival, I tried calling Ifeanyi to let him know that I had arrived but he was not taking his calls. I entered the house, Abigail welcomed me and led the way to the living room, the television was on and coincidentally (or so I thought) ‘Perfect’ by Ed Sheeran was playing. She requested I took off the sweat top I had on my jumpsuit and insisted I changed the sneakers I had on into my heels; saying that she wanted us to do a video of the making of the program before we went live as it was an hour prior to the start of the program. I agreed and did as she requested, and brought out my phone trying to leave a message for Ifeanyi, should he return my calls during the behind the scene video we were about to do.

Whilst I was at that, I did not notice that she opened the connecting door to their garden at the back of the house; she beckoned on me to get my attention, and when I looked up, I saw the young man I had been trying to reach for hours, standing in the decorated garden with candlelight and all. The Journey

Sometime in May 2018, I planned a trip with an Indian friend of mine, Jyostna to visit Paris to see all the hype of the city. After having planned the trip, I re-established contact with Ifeanyi as we weren’t in communication and I wanted him to be our tour guide since he lived in Paris so as to get the best of the ten-days trip (and I also wanted to eat Nigerian food too, which I heard was available in Paris). He excitedly accepted and agreed to meet up when we arrived Paris. On May 26, 2018, Jyostna and I arrived Paris in the evening and after what seems to be a 3-hour wait for Ifeanyi, he finally shows up at our accommodation at about 9.30pm (our first meeting officially) with a good explanation for his lateness. I teased him about his look as he showed up in a t-shirt and jean wearing palm slippers ( Strange way to look in the abroad... hehehehe)

The next 9 days were eventful, filled with so much fun as Ifeanyi took us to some interesting places and in-between had some treasured moments ranging from the boat tour cruise to the home lunch treat of Nigerian Jollof rice and turkey prepared by our amazing tour guide. In as much, as we did not want it to end, we had to return to Nice where I was based at that time; but the trip had sparked a friendship between us. After my return to Nice, few weeks later, Ifeanyi moved to Montpellier a city also in the south of France (3-hour drive from Nice), for his internship. Amid all these happenings, a disheartening event occurred that became the game changer in my communication and relationship with Ifeanyi. About 8 weeks after meeting Ifeanyi, he called me to tell me that one of his elder brothers had just passed on and was feeling so devastated; he asked if he could come around, I agreed, as I did not think it was wise for him to be by himself at such a time. That was how he visited Nice for the first time, and eventually became a regular visitor to Nice during the period of his internship in Montpellier. With his frequent visits, our closeness grew, and we eventually became fond of each other and preferred each other’s company.

Unlike every story, that has a beginning and an end, the supposed end of this one begins an entirely new story...

The START:

My story begins with some unconnected but related set of events. In 2017, August to be precise I arrive France for my Masters program, and when given the option of my preferred choice of campus, I chose the one in the south as I didn’t want to begin my experience in Paris which I believed will mirror the big city narrative just like Lagos where I grew up. Six months into my studies, I reconnected with a Nigerian friend of mine, Leye on Instagram. We both served in same company in Abuja during my National Youth Service. He introduced me to a network of Nigerians in France, called Friends of Nigeria (FON) and added me to their Whatsapp group. Fast forward to April 2018, I needed to make some payments and I needed Euros as I had just Naira, so I posted on the FON group requesting for help concerning this. A young man replied to my message, and after several bargains, we eventually did the transaction and, in the process, had a video conversation as the young man insisted on putting a face to the person he was communicating with over chat. The young man happened to be the key personality in my story, Hify as fondly called by his friends
