And we were happy to walked together with partners who tried to form a Palestinian bloc but were discriminated against and denied official participation. To erase and ban representation of an Indigenous people to participate in a climate march is a very sad thing.

So we were happy to see other people in other blocs also raising their voices to when a Palestinian woman was given space to speak on the mainstage by a peace activist. We regret and condemn that the microphone of the Palestinian speaker was turned off when she was trying to explain how genocide and ecocide are connected and settler colonialism is guilty of scorching earth and earthlings.

There will be a joined statement about what took place, initiated by one of our partners coming out later.

🙏🏽Thanks for uniting forces to decolonize earth - starting with decolonizing the climate movement.📢✊🏾✊🏼✊🏻✊🏿

Yesterday the climate march was bigger than ever: 85.000 people marched. The decolonial antiracism bloc walked together with the Palestinian bloc who was blocked official participation (not named on the website of the klimaatmars). We were bigger than last year aswell.

There is a general comdemnation amongst decolonial and antiracist climate justice groups and organizations about the way Palestinian participation was discriminated against by NGO's that shut down the mic of a peace activist on stage when she shared her speaking time with a Palestinian woman. The Klimaat mars also declined to have an Indigenous environmental voice on stage or make space for a Caribbean climate justice voice.

In general there seems to be an ongoing reproduction of denial and fragility about acknowledging the climate crisis is a colonial crisis. Or let people speak freely about the link between genocide and ecocide.

Hereby we share some resources about learning about the links between Palestine & climate justice.

Would you like to learn more about the links between Palestine & climate justice? Please dive in.

📢 Coming monday October 23rd we will discuss the concept of economic neo-colonialism and how it is re-produced by the Netherlands and Amsterdam in relation to trade with Africa.

📌 Register here: https://dezwijger.nl/programma/neocolonialism-in-africa

Within the Netherlands, Amsterdam has historically been an important location for colonialism and slavery, as shown by the study ‘Slavery in East and West’ that was carried out on behalf of the municipality in 2020 in response to the official apology. People often speak about colonial ‘history’ putting it in the past. There seems to be little room for reflection because of this on-contemporary forms of (neo-) colonialism in the field of international economics. During this programme, we reflect on how colonial history impacts the field of economy and trade in the form of contemporary neo-colonialism. In addition to that, we consider how institutions such as universities and research institutions are involved in this neo-colonialism. What is the impact of neo-colonialism on the African continent when we look at trade?

Art collectives Stories of Kathak and CTRL+ALT+IDENTITY respectively emerged in 2019 and 2021. Both collectives walk/dance different paths and histories, but have one thing in common: fighting for social justice for Women of Colour in the Global North, specifically The Netherlands. From our marginalized positions we constantly navigate, negotiate and claim our spaces in dominant white institutions, but also exist and thrive outside them. Our guiding principle within this fight is: we have always been connected. It emerged during the creation of CTRL+ALT+IDENTITY and grew further in Stories of Kathak. By doing so, we decolonize from the idea that art is an individual expression and something separate from life. But how does this work? And how can you make sure those principles sustain when your white environment demands something else?
Date: 25th of October, 2023. Time: 20:00-21:30
Online via Zoom (link follows in email)
About the speaker:
Anima Jhagroe-Ruissen (she/her) identifies as Social Artivist. Through dance and henna she challenges, with other Woman of Color, dominant narratives and explores alternative worlds beyond resistance. They create spaces where they can be together, learn through their senses and bodily archives and talk about their experiences and positionalities in relation to each other and life of Earth. Important elements in her art praxis are collectiveness, intersectional and decolonial approaches, materiality and her life experiences as a mix of Surinamese-Hindustani and Dutch-Zeeuwse descent.

Thursday | 21st of September 2023 | 20:00-21:30

Wigbertson Julian Isenia will share their perspective on sexuality in the Dutch Caribbean in a new Decolonial Learning Session!

This Decolonial Learning Session will focus on decolonizing gender and sexuality in the Dutch Caribbean landscape. Rigid ideas of gender and sexuality are inherently linked to a colonial viewpoint. Through a conversation with Wigbertson Julian Isenia, we will examine the impact of colonialism on ideas of gender and sexuality in the Caribbean and will look at how this can help us deconstruct our understandings in the Netherlands.

About the speaker:
Julian Isenia Wigbertson (he/they) is an interdisciplinary scholar and assistant professor of anthropology at the University of Amsterdam. They co-founded Black Q***r Archives, which organizes panels and exhibitions on marginalized groups, such as q***r activist groups of colour from the 1970s and HIV and AIDS awareness among postcolonial migrants in the Netherlands. Their work focuses on gendered and sexual cultures in Curaçao (part of the Dutch Caribbean) by analyzing cultural practices such as archival collections, literature, theatre, and cultural performances, combining ethnography with archival work. They are particularly interested in the implications of postcolonialism and q***r politics for historical and contemporary debates. By combining creative interdisciplinary methodologies, they have made contributions that have earned numerous awards, enhancing academic understanding and promoting societal inclusion. This work underscores their commitment to extending scholarly findings beyond the confines of academia.

During this event, we’ll talk with various artists that resist the euro-centric male-dominated historiography. They have dedicated their practices to the re-telling and re-structuring of history by honoring people that have for too long been ignored.

We're grateful to have Oumar Mbengue Atakosso (Africa in the Picture ), Emma-Lee Amponsah PhD (Black Speaks Back) & Tosch ( Heritage Tours) as speakers! And s/o to Gyonne Zafira (BeRightBack | BaiBin) for guiding us through the evening.

This live-cast focuses on decolonial resistance art that (re-)imagines new futures in the realm of art/politics/social life.

17 nov organiseerde Palestine Solidarity Rotterdam een protest in reactie op NEDS wapenbeurs in Ahoy.

Waarom: "the Dutch Industry for Defense and Security (NIDV) is hosting a INTERNATIONAL ARMS FAIR under the name of NIDV Exhibition Defence and Security. The world‘s leading arms manufacturers and traders are exhibiting their ‘products‘, which have been, and will be, used to commit atrocity after atrocity. This has nothing to do with Defense and Security and everything to do with Offense and Weapons."

Ze schreef eerder een blogpost over Military complex is foe of climate and poses threat to humanity
