You had to wait a while, but we can finally announce the lustrum lecturer… On the 23rd of May Bas Haring will be giving an enlightening lecture about light science! Buy your tickets tonight at 19:00🔥.
Bas Haring is a Dutch philosopher, writer, and television presenter and professor at the University of Leiden. You may know him from television programs like Proefkonijnen.
Here Bas shortly explain what he will talk about during the lecture:
“To me the social sciences — such as sociology, psychology and economics — are just a form of science. I don't care too much about the distinction between the natural sciences, the social sciences and the humanities; and my talk will apply to science in general. In correspondence to the anniversary themes I opted for the keyword "light"; and in my presentation I want to plead for what I call "light science". Science has become a very serious — or heavy — business, for good reasons. But sometimes a more light science is also appropriate: less serious, more playful, often individualistic, and maybe even a little strange. Scientists, or academics in general, have done the weirdest things: they made strange objects, asked ridiculous research questions, and used awkward research methods. I will give numerous examples of "light science" hoping you'll find them inspiring.”
