Goodmorning Nijmegen!
Today the Samba Festival Nijmegen is celebrating Play Out Loud Sunday (version 3.0). Radical new set-up with 7 great bands performing at the home of our new friends the City Nomads of Nijmegen who welcome us at Streekweg 19 / 21 with their hospitality and self-made food. Coffee and cakes will be ready from 10:30 onwards. Entrance is free. First performance starting at 11:00. Couldn’t have wished for better weather. Hope you all enjoy a fantastic event!

Please be aware that our two events this weekend are at different locations. Saturday Sept. 2nd we will be at Lindenberg Nijmegen (Ridderstraat 23) , as the last years, but for Sunday Sept. 3rd we have a brand new spot: De Nijmeegse StadsNomaden (Streekweg 21). One of the percussion groups that will perform at Play Out Loud Sunday, September 3rd: STIX!

We are STIX percussion from Tilburg, a fresh percussion band since 2019 with musical influences from Brazil, but also uptempo pop music. We like to play anything that swings. Having fun and making great music is of paramount importance to us, and preferably at the same time! You can meet us at various events and festivals.

After the workshops on Workshops Saturday, we don't go home... There is an evening show you don't want to mis! We are very proud to present to you: Novas Trilhas!

Novas Trilhas consists of four enthusiastic professional musicians who, after their conservatory studies, have immersed themselves in Brazilian music, language and culture. They play their own arrangements of well-known but also unknown Brazilian music. Not only samba from Rio de Janeiro, but also baião, xôte and samba reggae.

They would have been at our festival in 2020, but unfortunately Annelore had a cold (which, in covid-era, was a very strong no go). But this year, they'll be there to get us a great evening!

One of the percussion groups that will perform at Play Out Loud Sunday, September 3rd: Outra Vez!

Outra Vez! was founded in 2002 in Nijmegen, on the border of Gelderland, Limburg and Brabant. A mix of fun, cheerfulness, energy and enthusiasm gives our band a unique sound and unique performance. The name of the band means 'one more time' in Portuguese, and that's what we want to hear, one more time!
Samba is Afro-Brazilian percussion music; an infectious combination of African rhythms and Brazilian temperament. Pleasure in music is central to Outra Vez! This is clearly visible during our energetic performances. The band's enthusiasm, combined with the super-swinging music, gets even the stiffest boards moving.
Where can you find us?
Somewhere on the street or at samba and music festivals. And also during various sporting events, company parties, weddings, fairs, fairs, (carnival) parades and multicultural festivities. In all those places, our musicians show what they understand by exciting Brazilian music!
Some examples
Samba Festivals: Outra Vez! was already present in Badbergen (DE), Boekel, Breda, Coburg (DE), Eindhoven, Glasgow (UK), Heerlen, Cologne (DE), Copenhagen (DK), Luton (UK), Oss and of course the samba festival in our own Nijmegen.
Sports events: Marikenloop, Zevenheuvelenloop, Batavierenrace, Stevensloop, marathons (including in Luxembourg), triathlons, Four Days Marches, football matches, etc.

One of the teachers that will do lessons at Workshop Saturday, September 2nd: Willem de Gooyert!

Willem has been exploring Brazilian percussion for over 16 years now. In that time, he has played with many groups all over Europe, as well as having travelled to Brazil several times to study and play with some of the greatest baterias. Some of his highlights include playing and/or teaching in Uniao dos Paises Baixos, Gamberro, Bloco X, London School of Samba, Paraiso, G.R.E.S. Unidos do Viradouro, G.R.E.S. Academicos do Salgueiro, Unidos da Vila Isabel, and many more! He currently teaches at the Brighton School of Samba in his hometown, and loves to explore new techniques and rhythms, with a samba twist.

We are a band from Nijmegen and we play a mix of samba, samba reggae, samba funk, axé with a Forca sauce. We get people moving with every performance. From exuberant dancing to the tapping of the feet. But we see that people enjoy the music and that's what we do it for!

One of the teachers that will do lessons at Workshop Saturday, September 2nd: Thomas Sukiennik!

In 1987 Thomas saw the Escola de Samba Baden under the direction of Thomas Köhler and Adolf Pfau at the Jazzkeller in Bonn. It hit him like a bolt of lightning and he knew exactly what he wanted to do in his life. Thomas, Adolf and the whole Escola de Samba were his very first school and supported him very much. Many and long stays in Brazil and Cuba followed to study music, country and people. Then later 3 years of Latin percussion studies at the Rotterdam Conservatory. Until 2015 self-employed as performing musician (percussionist) in shows, bands, corporate events. Thopmas is self-employed as a music educator in percussion for about 35 years. Workshops at institutions, schools and for companies.

Thomas will teach the workshops Ritmos do Candeal, Repique, Samba Reggae and Freestyle Rhythms for Afro Bloco. Want to join? Get your tickets at www.sambafestival.nl!
