I know it’s been awfully quiet over here, but I’ve been keeping a big secret!

Our first baby will arrive in April! 💙

Georg and I are over the moon, and we can’t wait to welcome our little boy to our family!

So, I’m having a joyful baby break until January next year to fully enjoy and appreciate this new season of life.

Even though I’m not available for weddings in 2023, I’m already taking bookings for 2024!

I’ll also try to show up here from time to time to keep you all up to date with cute baby pictures – but no promises; as a first-time mum, I have no clue what’s in store for us 🙈 .

Thank you all so much for your patience if my response does take a little longer than usual in the next few months!

Love, Michaela 🧡

Oh hello, Friday!

As there are a few new faces around here, I thought I re-introduce myself.

I’m Michaela, the heart behind Lovely & Planned, and I’m pretty much obsessed with all things wedding - buttercream cakes, wedding heels, Pachelbel's Canon in D - you name it! But I guess that’s kind of a given, right?

So here is 1 random fact you might NOT have known about me.

* For the last 2 years, whenever we have had some spare time, my husband and I have been renovating a vacation house in the southeast of Austria. We are FAR from done, but super happy with the results so far. 👉🏼 Swipe for some before and after images.

Now it’s your turn; I’d love to get to know you better! Share one fact about you in the comments below 👇🏼

Out of Office // Lovely & Planned is taking a summer break until August 23rd. I will get back to emails and DMs from the 24th onwards.

I’m off to Austria - so excited for some family time, hiking, BBQs, and lots of relaxation and pampering.

So that I’m fully ready to tackle the second half of this year's wedding season. 💪🏼

Have you already had your summer break? How did you spend it?

Let's talk budget.

If you are planning a destination elopement or wedding, expenses can quickly add up.

So, here are 4 tips on how to stay on top of things easily:

1. Set a budget and stick to it. This is the most crucial step and still one of the most overlooked ones.

2. Talk to your partner about your spending priorities. What's most important to you for your wedding? E.g., fantastic food, a breathtaking view, or an extraordinary honeymoon?

3. Create a budget spreadsheet with three columns for items/services, estimated costs, and actual costs.

4. Look into elopement packages. These are usually all-inclusive solutions for a beautiful, stress-free wedding. They typically cover everything you need without any hidden expenses.

To help you even more with budgeting, I created a BUDGET PLANNER specifically for intimate destination weddings and elopements.

Quick Tip - Elopement Announcements:

* Send out elopement announcements as soon as possible. Ideally, already have them ready before you elope.

* You can send them via email or mail. But sending them via snail mail adds an extra personal touch and your friends and family may appreciate the extra effort.

* Send the cards to everyone you would have normally invited to a traditional wedding.

* Your text could say something like: “Although we decided to celebrate our love with an intimate and private ceremony, please know that you were in our thoughts and forever will be in our hearts."

Was that helpful? Let me know in the comments if you have any more questions about eloping! And check out the link in my bio for more elopement planning resources!

Happy Friday!

Although my to-do list is longer than the number of hours left in this week, I’m excited about the weekend! I finally have a hairdresser appointment (long overdue 🙈), I'm planning to try out a new brunch place, and do some decluttering.…with a little bit of work catch-up thrown in the mix.

What are YOUR plans for the weekend?

By the way, if you are having an elopement and looking for a wedding cake alternative, how about tiny cakes instead?

One cake is just perfect for one person- that said, you may still want to order more...just in case they are too good to stop after one 😋

A step-by-step guide on how to plan an elopement:

Just because it's an elopement doesn't mean you don't need to plan anything at all! After all, an elopement is still a wedding- even if it's just a tiny one. So, here are all the essential steps you need to take when you plan to elope:

ONE - Basics
* Set a budget
* Decide on your destination
* Set a date
* Decide if you want to invite friends and family

TWO - Travel & Paperwork
* Research legal requirements
* Obtain a marriage license
* Sort out any travel paperwork
* Book your flights and accommodation
* Arrange travel insurance

THREE - Wedding Essentials & Vendors
* Decide on your style/theme and color scheme for your wedding
* Reach out to wedding venues
* Reach out to wedding vendors
* Book elopement day activities
* Purchase wedding attire and wedding bands

FOUR - Checklists & Timelines
* Create a day-of timeline
* Create a playlist for your ceremony
* Write your vows
* Create a day-of packing list

FIVE - After your Elopement
* Enjoy your honeymoon
* Send out elopement announcements
* Celebrate with your loved ones
* Sort out any paperwork to legalize your marriage

I hope this was helpful. For more information 👉🏼

Ceremony reading idea:

To love is not to possess,
To own or imprison,
Nor to lose one’s self in another.
Love is to join and separate,
To walk alone and together,
To find a laughing freedom
That lonely isolation does not permit.
It is finally to be able
To be who we really are.

- James Kavanaugh, To Love is Not to Possess

Happy Weekend!

Oh, hey, sweet Wednesday!

Can I let you in on an (open) secret? As a wedding planner, during wedding season, my weeks don't usually run from Monday to Friday. But more like Sunday to Sunday.

So instead of having one or two entire days off, I try to create small hygge moments throughout my day. I light a candle, buy a bunch of fresh flowers, or take a moment to read a few pages in a book.

And honestly, I love these cozy moments as they help me tremendously to calm down and recharge my batteries.

What do you do if you need a break throughout the day? Let me know in the comments! 👇🏼

Sure, I know that Jaspi has nothing to do with wedding planning. But I just cant’t help myself- he is just the most adorable team member ever!

… But I have to admit, he might not be the most productive one… speaking of sleeping at the office most of the time. 😅

Happy Tuesday, everyone!

Do I have to wear a dress when eloping? Does my wedding dress have to be white? Can I still wear that gorgeous ballgown dress?

In a recent blog post, I talk with Thuhien, the owner of the gorgeous bridal boutique , about all things elopement dresses.

From "How to travel with your wedding dress?" to "Are there any dress styles that work particularly well for destination elopements?".

Head to the link in my bio to read all about it. 💛

And spoiler alert, the answers to the first three questions are: no, no, maybe 😉

When couples decide to work with me, I start by sending them a little questionnaire.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It’s about finding out more about their visions and expectations, but also about their lives and personalities! Like how does your typical day off look like? How would you describe each other in 3 words?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It’s all about getting to know them better! So, I can put together a wedding that’s truly one-of-a-kind! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It’s important to me to create a wedding day that’s not a copy of a pretty Pinterest picture but a day that's truly as unique as my couple!

Is eloping selfish?

This is a question I hear quite a lot. And I can assure you, eloping is NOT selfish!

A wedding should always be about YOU and your vision and this also includes your guest list.

But there are a few things you can do to be considered about your loved ones' feelings. Here are 5 tips:

1. Talk to your parents and closest family and friends first before telling anyone else that you want to elope (or have eloped).
2. Tell your most important people in person. Never just send them a text or email.
3. Talk about the reason why you want to elope. This helps everyone to understand how you came to this decision.
4. After your elopement, send out announcement cards to everyone you would have normally invited to a traditional wedding via mail.
5. Only after everyone close to you knows that you eloped start posting on social media.

Any more questions about eloping? Leave them in the comments below 👇🏼.

Why I became a wedding planner.

Caution: cliché!

I've always had a love for planning, organizing, and aesthetics! And the idea for L&P started to take shape with my own wedding back in 2015.

When I spent hours talking to vendors, creating timelines and checklists, and thinking about every tiny design detail, I realized that I truly loved every single minute of it.

It was hard for me to hand over the reins even on my wedding day. So, after that, becoming a wedding planner felt like the most natural and logical thing to do.

Fast forward a few years, I finally had the chance to make my dream come true. And although it hasn't always been a piece of cake, I wouldn't treat it for any other job in the world!

If you want to know how I can help YOU plan your dream wedding, send me a DM. 🧡

My number one tip for planning an elopement:

Create a checklist that is as detailed as possible. This way you ensure that nothing will be overlooked.

Your checklist should include things like:

1. Set a budget, a date and decide on a destination/venue.
2. Research legal requirements for weddings if you have a destination elopement.
3. Sort out any (travel) paperwork like obtaining a marriage license, passport renewals, and visas.
4. Book an elopement photographer.
5. Book other vendors e.g. hair and makeup artist, wedding officiant, baker for your elopement cake, florist.

I know creating such a detailed checklist can be very overwhelming and time-consuming.

So I made a 5-page planning checklist for you that already includes ALL the things. From setting a budget to sending out elopement announcements and anything in between. That way, you have time and energy to focus on what really matters- your love for each other!

It’s official, my Christmas break is here!

This year, I treat myself to a much-needed extended holiday vacation to recharge my batteries.

During the next three weeks, I’m planning on sleeping in, eating way too many Christmas cookies, doing yoga (thank you for inspiring me 🧘‍♀️), connecting with family, and spending quality time with my loved ones.

But I’ll also do a lot of planning for the year ahead, so I’m fully prepared for a wonderful 2022 and ready to go once I’m back in the office in January.

I wish you all a very merry Christmas 🎄 and a fabulous Happy New Year 🌟!

PS. I'm curious, how are you planning on spending your holidays? Let me know in the comments below 👇🏼

Love, Michaela 🤍
