We just wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who joined us at for the Bass Is The Place event during ADE.

It was wonderful to see new and familiar faces engage in a topic that is very close to our hearts. Your presence and curiosity made the afternoon truly special.

A heartfelt salute to Adrian Sherwood, Rozaly, and Mijke Hurkx for their thoughtful participation on the panel. Your raw insights on sound system culture and its current state stirred the pot and created a conversation that resonated deeply.

We’re incredibly proud to welcome Adrian Sherwood to our Bass Is The Place panel. For over 40 years, Adrian has been a true pioneer, shaping the sounds of dub, reggae, and beyond through his trailblazing work as a producer and founder of the iconic On-U Sound label. His influence spans countless collaborations with artists like Lee Scratch Perry, Prince Far I, and Horace Andy, and his remixes have reached everyone from Nine Inch Nails to Blur.

It’s hard to condense such an extensive career, but Adrian’s dedication to experimenting with sound has been felt far and wide, with a catalog that spans decades and a constant drive to push boundaries. Recent projects like “Midnight Rocker” and “Lucifer on the Moon” are proof that his visionary approach remains as fresh and exciting as ever.

Having Adrian on the panel is a privilege, and we’re thrilled to dive into the history of his work and the evolving influences of Caribbean music. Expect an insightful conversation from one of the most forward-thinking minds in sound 💚

We’re excited to welcome Rozaly as a panelist for Bass Is The Place. A sonic practitioner, curator, and DJ from Curaçao, he is committed to breaking boundaries surrounding Caribbean sounds and expanding the narratives that define them. His approach, tinged with absurdism, seeks to unearth collective memories and lost heritage, providing a refreshing perspective that complements our focus on Caribbean influence in modern sound.

With performances at Dekmantel Festival, Nyege Nyege, and De School, and as a resident DJ at Garage Noord, Rozaly brings a wealth of experience to the table. He also curates and designs sound for various art and music projects, collaborating with renowned brands and artists alike. His dedication to showcasing authentic sonic experiences from the Caribbean is an invaluable addition to our panel, and we look forward to the insights he will share during our discussion 💛

We’re pleased to share that our panel on Sunday will be moderated by Mijke Hurkx, a close friend of Live at the BBQ.

Mijke, also known as Margie, is a staple DJ in Amsterdam and the founder of LOCH INN ( ), a platform dedicated to fostering creativity and collaboration among local artists. She’s worked closely with Krackfree Soundsystem and has a history of hosting thoughtful, DIY nights that bring local budding producers and curious music lovers together. Her deep connection to sound system culture and her experience in the Amsterdam music community make her an ideal fit to lead this conversation.

We’re looking forward to having her guide the discussion with care and insight 🧡

Join us for a special screening of Lovers Rock, a beautiful ode to the UK’s vibrant sound system culture, directed by the legendary Steve McQueen. Set in the late 70s, Lovers Rock captures the intimate joy of a house party, where Caribbean communities in the UK came together to celebrate music, love, and freedom in the face of adversity. This Thursday we will be teaming up with to bring forth another edition of Central Laat at (Utrecht), where an exploration of the thematic spaces between soundsystem culture and file sharing technologies will be on exhibition.

In the garden, we start off with our residents , .guy and , followed by and , showcasing sound system culture and the broad cultural heritage that goes with it.

In the museum’s Tuinzaal, performances, conversations and audiovisual works can be seen by Lulu, Janomax, Milena Anna Bouma and corecore.

Food will be provided by local favorite (vegan options available too).

Live at the BBQ Screening: “Babylon” (1980) by Franco Rosso at .ams

On February 1st we will screen the acclaimed film “Babylon” (1980, dir. Franco Rosso). Known for its portrayal of London sound system crews and the challenges faced by young black individuals in the late ‘70s to early ‘80s, the film stars Brinsley Ford as Blue and features music by Aswad, Dennis Bovell, and Cassandra.

Join us at Mur Mur (Johan van Hasseltweg 39, 1021 KS Amsterdam). Doors open at 6 pm, and the screening begins at 8 pm. Hosted by Garnett & Naima, the evening will feature their curated selection of dub, lovers rock, and reggae records.

Live at the BBQ is back! This time they partnered up with Doka for the last banger of the year. The 17th of December Live at the BBQ will present you the bridge between hiphop and electronic sounds with no other than Ranye, Cheyanne Hudson, Chalé and Garnett.

Returning to the clubsettings with the Live at the BBQ's
ethos and bridging the gap between sounds and cultures.

This time we messed around and connected the dots, bringing several parts of digging culture together. We invited two of Damsco's renowned record stores, Redlight Records and Killa Cutz to highlight there take on musical selections. Longside two sick DJ's , Cheyanne Hudson and Lrrytwt both finding there way to the internet waves and picking the right gems. Obviously resident Garnett will provide the usual BBQ sauce to top it all off.
