About us.

Together Dave and Sabina Mead run several businesses based out of Auckland. Additional to the all-new “Smokin’ BBQ”, they operate “Decked Out Yachting Ltd” – the largest Charter Boat Agent and Management company in New Zealand. According to the wise; “Success comes to those who dedicate everything to their passion in life”. This has long been the motto for both as they have combined a love for the ocean and thirst for redefining the world of BBQ in New Zealand into both ventures.

Merely dabbling in the low and slow groove of American BBQ and Pitmasters was never going to be enough, resulting in the birth of “Smokin’ BBQ”. After taking the plunge and purchasing their first commercial Yoder Smoker, they were hooked! The family has grown to include the whopping Pro Q Chamber; a gravity-fed smoker, the Lonestar trailer smoker, the Texas Original BBQ trailer pit and a trusty Weber, so let’s just say it’s now become a bit more than a hobby….

Needs must, so a frantic call was made to Sabina’s brother Sol, who was over in Aus running a clothing business out of shops and markets, asking if he wanted to take the plunge across the ditch and smoke up some BBQ… Thank the Gods of Fire he agreed, packed in the land of Bundaberg and thongs, sold his clothing business to join the fired-up team.

While settling in to his new digs, Sol visited another expat - Brazilian Chef Halan who had recently finished a contract and was looking for a new venture that would satisfy his love for food but didn’t involve the mundane hum-drum of commercial kitchens. It didn’t take much for Sol to sell the concept to Halan, who jumped at the opportunity to become Smokin’ BBQ’s Head Chef.
