Ten years ago since the trip that changed the direction of my life 💗

Solo to India for a month in an ashram completing my first Yoga Teachers' Training Course (first foray into yoga ever - didn't even know what a downward dog was!!), then onto Nepal to climb to Everest Base Camp. The time where I finally faced that I'd developed some pretty deep issues with disordered eating, and although it was a fair few years until I was truly on top of it, where it all began to get better.

That me was so gutsy, naive and completely following a gut instinct to do stuff that catapulted me out of my comfort zone to find where I feel most comfortable. I'm so grateful to my decade-ago self for finding my way 🫶.

One more wedding then the 24/25 season complete! 50 weddings, one funeral, a whole lot of beautiful people 🫶. A collection of photos captured throughout.

This season also involved a pretty tumultuous trimester two of a tough wee boy in my tummy. Weddings during this time of limbo were such a blessing, especially those in March and April - it was so relieving to go and put my head into something so happy and joyful for an hour. Likewise with teaching yoga; that grounding settled some moments of spiralling. (I also learnt I have a very gnarly game face when it's go time).

Forever thankful for the jobs I do - you can hardly call it "work" when you love it this much. 💗

Ten years as a celebrant! 💗

Congratulations Aroha & Aaron - a decade deep today 🥂20/3/2015

Incredible how much has changed in that time; learnt lots, changed LOTS, and still fizz at the honour whenever anyone asks me to do their wedding. Officiated for some of my best friends, people that have become friends, my brother, some cousins, people I went to school with - primary and both high schools - and just met some phenomenal others along the way. Very, very blessed to adore what I do 🫶

The Stewart Wedding - 12.12.24 ❤️ Two of my favourite people, one of my favourite days ever!

First time doing the duo role of bridesmaid and celebrant, and what a wedding for it. Coolest crew of people, complete with kilts, Fiordland Lodge, all captured by the incredibly talented Rose & Co Creative - and of course, featuring the Cutest Flower Girl Ever (TM).

Congrats Emma & Mark, all the love in the world for you guys 🫶

Facebook notified me it was time for one of my sporadic posts, so here’s an update on things!

We’ve had a really lovely winter; very blessed to have what I consider to be the best of both worlds, being a “stay-at-home” mum during the day, and teaching yoga in the a.m and p.m. Evie and I have found a wonderful balance of activity, chill and an uncountable number of bike rides. Regan and I have a delightfully friendly, strong-willed and exceptionally fun little daughter, and it’s a true honour to hang out with her as she grows - even if sandals and socks feature heavily in getting dressed each day. (As do helmets on all occasions, several changes of sunglasses and the newest interest, tutus over whatever else is on). This little thing has also proved to be a yogi young, with her downward dogs, boats, forward folds and cobras absolutely 👌🏼

Weddings officially start as of next week for me, and with almost 40 across the season, I’ve been script writing during Nessil’s nap time for the last wee while. Supremely excited to get back into celebrant stuff with some very cool couples coming up, including two of my favourite friends.

I’ve also managed to really slow down, take things as they come, and stop stressing about things that aren’t even things. (Of course, there are moments of each not quite happening, but the overpower is getting stronger). Managed to incorporate a regular meditation practise (even 5 minutes a day makes the world of difference) and a life without personal social media has most definitely proved to make me a version of myself I like a whole lot better. Also learnt to actually properly cook and make dinner at the age of 32, which I’m very chuffed to invite people over to flex. (Who knew that you could be best friends with chicken stock?)

Not much else to report, which is also the beauty of it - peace and joy in the “mundane” is a place I’m really happy to be 🙏🏼

A collection of photos from the last little while, mostly featuring said sandals-and-socks-obsessed, helmet-on-always, happy wee girl.

Otto ❤️

Sunrise: 04/04/08, sunset: 13/05/24.

“Dog” doesn’t encompass even 1/1000th of what Otto was; he was a huge part of our family, and was so incredibly loved. Our hearts are in bits, but there’s peace in knowing it was the right thing, and the right time.

So, so, so much more I could say and so many thousands more photos I could share, but the essence of it is: he was the bestest friend there ever could be. 💔

Happy Birthday to previous yoga assistant and story book muse, Otto! Last Thursday he turned 16 - or 112 in dog years - and although the sight and hearing has reduced a bit, he’s still a very happy and hungry boy.

Otto retired from being the yoga dog when I went on maternity leave - the change in studio location and not getting on with his new colleague (Sherpa Gough, the GSD) prompted the decision to call it. But he’s very much still a very loyal boy, my little bearded best friend for half my life 🫶

🥈 at NZ Waterski Nationals

Somewhere along the line of growing up, I took on this belief that it’s only worth doing something if you win or are one of the best, and not liking people watching me do something if it wasn’t the case. It’s a notion that’s stopped me from being involved in LOTS of things over the years, and something I really, really didn’t want Evie taking on in observing it in me. So after a 20 year hiatus, I decided to enter Nationals - last one I competed in was 2005 Whanganui. Pretty ironic to come away with a silver, but that’s a lot more to do with the lack of O21 Women skiers, and a lot less to do with my skill on a slalom ski. 🙃

I find slalom immensely meditative; to have a good set, you’ve fully got to be there. Presence has to be on the buoy you’re at - you can’t be thinking about the one been or the one to come, because in that moment neither of them matter. And it’s all the tiny nuances which have remarkable impact on how you perform and progress - awareness around all little bits that make up the whole.

A real self growth situation, and I feel super lucky to have refound something I froth to do in the process. Pretty cool to spend the time with my Dad too.
