A huge thank you to some of our long-time supporters and friends of PIPS, who raised an incredible $3,500 for us by organising a fabulous winter warmer evening, with cocktails and nibbles provided by White Tie Catering NZ. We are so grateful to Nicola, Tina, Maria, Katie, and George (from White Tie Catering), along with all your friends and family – your thoughtfulness and generosity allows us to continue supporting whānau and our community.

People often ask how they can support the work we do. Gathering your networks and asking for a small koha for PIPS, while your friends enjoy a delicious morning tea, lunch, or drinks and nibbles is a fun and easy way to socialise and be there for those who need our services most. $30 or $3,000 – every donation makes the world of difference!

It's our Lucy! Looking forward to tomorrow night with Too Many Cooks

Meet Lucy Ayres from White Tie Catering NZ , the creator of the delicious truffle cheesecake canape with serrano ham and balsamic pearls that diners will be enjoying at Too Many Cooks tomorrow evening.

Lucy started her cooking career at Millbrook Resort before heading to Melbourne to work at Stephanie Alexander’s Richmond Hill Café and Larder. Returning to Christchurch, Lucy founded her very successful bao bun business, Bao Down, establishing herself as a young female chef showing the local food scene a thing or two. She then became Executive Chef for the Welles Street Group, before joining White Tie Catering as Head Chef.

Lucy relishes the challenge of creating bespoke menus of carefully crafted food for events of any size. Lucy’s passion for food sees her cooking on her days off, as it is her favourite thing to do.

It is with much love, respect and admiration that we acknowledge the life and work of our founding father, Michael Lee-Richards. Michael passed away peacefully last night, 7 December 2022.

Michael founded White Tie 40 years ago, with the stellar team of Alan Overton and Helen Harrowfield, after his restaurant customers started asking for catering services. His genius and creativity was unparalleled, his food far ahead of its time. His wit, the glean in his eye, his ability to get everybody on board – you could never say no to Michael. Some of the most successful hospitality stars in New Zealand and around the world, came through Michael’s kitchens and the White Tie kitchens that followed always maintained the same core beliefs of flavour, creativity and innovation.

And in the immortal words of Michael, if it fails, “tell them it’s rustic”.

Rest in peace knowing your legacy continues to be in safe, loving hands and your influence (mahogany salmon!) will be ever present.

New Custodians for White Tie

White Tie Catering is thrilled to introduce new owners, and a new chapter, for the 40-year-old Canterbury catering company.

After 14 years at the helm and eight years in ownership, Katie Duncan and Michelle Walker have passed the torch to Canterbury hospitality stalwart, Jonny Schwass and his team from Good Company.

The brands, White Tie Catering, The Catering Dept and White Tie Health Services, will all continue to operate as they currently do, along with current staff.

White Tie is her own personality after 40-years operating in Canterbury, she’s an entity in her own right. You never OWN White Tie; you just take care of her for a while.

To pass the torch to people who know our town and our industry is the best, but to pass it to friends, is the ultimate.

We will be in touch with all clients over the coming weeks to reaffirm our commitment to the best events, and continuing White Tie’s stellar reputation.

In the meantime....champagne.
