The grids pretty quiet these days… but had the pleasure of visiting my sons nature school and this moment watching him run through the bush barefoot was so incredibly special and heart warming. Aotearoa you are a majestic and beautiful place 🌳🪵

The youngest kiddo just turned 3! We had a little party for her yesterday and I was lucky enough to score these balloons from our local cafe who were looking to give them a second life. She still loved choosing the colour bunting she wanted though!
Not a zero waste party this year but no disposables used, no food in the bin and fun had by all.
I’ve found by keeping the parties a lot smaller it’s much more manageable to use reusable stuff that needs washing. With covid always lurking, smaller parties feel safer and the reduction in waste, gifts and cost is a bonus for me!

Let’s hope for minimal disruptions to our celebrations this year! 🤞🏻 🎂
With the ever mounting mental load of the pandemic, I know first hand that saving the planet feels like just another thing to worry about. 😵‍💫
Do your best, do what you can when you can. Be kind to yourself 💚

Incredibly lucky to be child free this afternoon and I have a million chores I could do, but instead I went to the beach. Never be afraid to prioritise YOU. You don’t have to wait until you’re at the end of your to do list before you do something that brings you peace and joy. Everyone benefits when we take care of our selves 🌏🌊

We drove to a remote beach today. No one else was about and it was great to let the kids run wild without restricting them. It always amazes me how good kids are at playing with nothing. It’s not easy being an Aucklander right now. For some it’s unbearable. Today I soaked up the privilege to take my tamariki somewhere any kid of any background would relish in its beauty and wide open freedoms.
Hang in there whanau 💚

What’s in a Party Kit? 💚🥳

As a minimum, you’ll find reusable plates and cups in all our member party kits.

All party kits are run independently which means the equipment offered does differs from kit to kit, but there’s likely to be...

⭐️ bowls
⭐️ jugs
⭐️ serving platters
⭐️ table linen
⭐️ cutlery
⭐️ decorations
⭐️ and MORE!

By reusing, rather than buying to throwaway, we can reduce our impact on the planet. 🌍

Let’s make parties more sustainable ♻️🌱

[plastic free July] usually I have a plan of attack for reducing my plastic consumption during July. This month however started with the loss of my dearly beloved Grandad so after a busy and emotional fortnight my single use plastic has actually gone up. I did however take my own mug to hospice 😆. Anyway, just remember that we don’t know what others are dealing with when we see them making choices we don’t agree with. I’m planning to push my PFJ to august so will share my efforts them. 🌿Community party kit🌿
I’ve been pretty quiet on the gram lately. It’s been a turbulent few weeks of sickness and injuries in my household and the old nervous system needed some shut off time 😅
BUT! News for my FRANKLIN locals.
I REALLY want to encourage more families in our community to give reusables a go at their celebrations.
Any bookings made for self clean boxes up until September will be completely free of charge. Must live in the Franklin district and be able to collect. Subject to availability . Refundable bond required.
DM for more details 🌸

🍰reducing your food waste at parties 🍰
Quick fire tips!
🔥put out small amounts and replenish if needed.
🔥don’t put cheeses and other melty food out in the sun.
🔥freeze left overs or store in airtight containers to use another day.
🔥compost what you can. Use the sharewaste app or offer to someone you know with chooks/piggies.
🔥be realistic about what your guests will eat.
🔥consider the time of day. E.g- people will probably be hungrier if the party starts at 11am vs 2pm.
🔥keep it simple. You don’t need loads of options.
🔥seperate out your snacks to stop things mixing/getting soggy. Small plates and divider platters work well.
🔥chase up your rsvps and cater accordingly.

This wee cherub will be 2 next month. We celebrated her first birthday in our bubble during level 4 lock down. Perhaps this year I’ll iron the bunting since they’ll potentially be others celebrating with us 🤭
I have lots of beautiful bunting available for your celebrations that are included with every party box🌈

🧁[Feeding kids at parties]🧁
I know parents often feel pressure about what kind of party food they should or shouldn’t have but my advice is to keep it simple and serve some version of a cake and you’ll nail it.
🎂too much food/too many options = wasted food
🎂make a plan to check you’ve got a balance of sweet/savoury and age appropriate food
🎂 organise a cake that fits your expertise and/ or budget. This year I purchased a professional cake but topped it up with a homemade one to keep the cost down but there was no pressure to make mine “look good.”

[International Women’s day and children ]
I get really fired up about the language we use around children. Im not talking about dropping the F bomb, I’m talking about the conditioning and internal messaging that unwittingly give to them that creates their internal narratives throughout their lives.
“Don’t be a girl”... it sounds innocent enough. But children internalise our words, not necessarily their intention. It sends a message to both sexes that females are weaker or incapable and that is a dangerous and untrue message.
Gender equality is not about being the same, it is about both sexes holding the same VALUE.
Let’s raise our girls to confident enough to be their authentic selves, whatever that may be. It’s just as important to educate our boys to respect and revere women.

[party gifts and favours] my lovely friend Crystal (AKA worlds best gift buyer) got these for my sons birthday. In case you’re wondering “what the heck are they?!”... I’ll tell you. REUSEABLE water balloons. 💦
Loads of people are now making and selling them, and if you can find your way around a crochet hook then you could probably do it yourself. (Not me😓).
Anyway I thought I’d share as they’d make a lovely option for a sustainable but fun gift or an addition to a loot bag, instead of extra lolly pops or plastic toys that last 8 seconds, get eaten by the dog and next thing you know you have neon plastic spotted dog p**p on your backyard (true story) 🤨🐶💩

[Low waste party snack] I made this after seeing Nadia Lim make it on her lock down cooking tv series last year. It’s rather addictive. Great for parties, movie nights and an all round delicious treat. 🍿
I used a large pot with a clear lid. Medium heat, 2 TBS coconut oil, wait till it’s hot, pop in a 1/3 C popcorn kernels and give it a shake.
Keep the lid on and shake regularly. Once it’s finished popping, mix through maple syrup or honey and peanut butter to taste. I eyeballed it but I’d guess 1-2 TBS maple syrup and 1 TBS of peanut butter and a shake of salt. Cinnamon is nice too but we’re all out. Enjoy!

Our mission

Since bringing my son into the world, I have felt an overwhelming responsibility to protect the world he’ll grow up in. Our family is on a journey to reduce our waste and live more mindfully.

Parties create a lot of waste! My mission is minimize that, by offering this service. The party boxes are a great way to divert plates, cups and food from going to landfill without any inconvenience to the hosts.
