I got lots of questions about why I pull my tulips when I posted this video on my stories the other day. So Iโm posting again with an explanation. Tulips need a very cold period in order to produce premium blooms. They also need food to feed the bulb in order to flower the following year. I live in an area where winters are very mild so tulip bulbs donโt get that period of cold that they need resulting in stunted tulips. Also, if I cut the tulip stem I invariable cut off quite a few leaves. These leaves provide the bulb with food so if theyโre cut off the bulb doesnโt get the nutrients it needs to produce fabulous blooms the following year. I also get quite a bit more stem length when I pull by the bulb which florists really appreciate. Hope that all makes sense! Having said all that you can overwinter your tulips in a mild winter area if you bury them deeply. I have some that I donโt cut and they come back beautifully every year. Tulips at Havelock BP today if youโd like a bunch of Spring on your kitchen table ๐๐ท๐๐ท๐๐ท
Early morning bouquet making. Nice way to start the day ๐
One of todayโs bouquets. The best of Spring. I like to incorporate a little drama into my bouquets if I can. The peonies are tucked down a bit so will put on a bit of a show as they slowly open. And that poppy? Well, deserves an Oscar surely ๐ ๐
