I’m a Christchurch and North Canterbury-based marriage celebrant specialising in fun, vibrant and beautifully crafted wedding ceremonies. As a full-time wedding lover, I work any day, any time - officiating traditional and micro weddings, elopements, registry office-style ceremonies and vow renewals throughout Canterbury. Other than being a marriage celebrant, I also run two wedding directories -

North Canterbury Weddings and Christchurch Celebrants, and have turned these into an app - Wedding White Pages. I’m also the editor of popular South Island wedding magazine, Canterbury Bride. Because of this, I like to keep up with bridal and wedding trends, and also work very closely (and can personally recommend!) some of the best wedding vendors Canterbury has to offer. As a validated member of Celebrants Aotearoa New Zealand, VCANZ, it means I’ve been appointed as a Registry Celebrant, now that the Christchurch Registry Office is permanently closed. It's interesting that the same week my 2025 Pride Pledge certificate arrived in the post, a hideous anti-trans stance came out of the US 💔 Although I keep a keen eye on politics, I'm not a political person, but it feels like a good time to remind you that I'm 💖 And, bringing international local, it blows my mind and hurts my heart that there are vendors in our Christchurch and Canterbury wedding industry who refuse to work with same-sex couples or any couple who isn't cisgender 🤯

When you book with me, just know that your elopement will be free from bigots, as I refuse to contract in any vendor who doesn't agree with all love recognised by law here in Aotearoa 🏳️‍🌈

I took the Pride Pledge in 2022, and it makes me so proud, that in my business, we embrace love in all forms.

Today is National Celebrants Day ♥️ It's been a day of reflection for me as I've thought about all the ceremonies I've officiated over the past year - including my brother's, which was the most amazing honour of my entire celebrant career 🥰 James and Ngahuia were hitched over Waitangi weekend at Rewatu Marae, Poroporo, Whakatane ♥️

You won't be able to tell by looking at this photo, but during the powhiri the weather gods threw us one heck of a lightning, thunder and torrential rain storm! The type of storm where trees were falling across roads and debris was flying everywhere. We couldn't see anything in front of us or hear anything around us because the rain was hammering down so heavily and the thunder seemed stuck in an endless rumble. So, to say we got saturated is an understatement 😅💃🏼 The dress I'm wearing was actually light pink when I arrived at the marae and my hair certainly wasn't pulled back into a drenched bun (which continued to drip down my back during the whole ceremony...) 🤣♥️ But what an incredible memory!! 🥰

Being a celebrant is such a special role and I'm so happy I get to do this as a job x

School holidays: day 1 ✨ What this doesn’t show is that Austen also joined me at an elopement this morning where he finished his new book sitting under a tree, making memories watching his mum work. He loved it and I loved that my boss (me) agreed it was take ya kid to work day 😅 Isn’t Aust awesome for encouraging me to have a go on his scooter - even though the wheels are the tiniest things I’ve ever seen 🥹😅🤣 Now I want to get my own one! 😂💃 Wonder what we’ll get up to tomorrow x

From wedding singer to celebrant

Have you ever seen the movie The Wedding Singer? That used to be me. The singing bit, rather than the ‘meeting waitresses at weddings’ or having an awesome mullet part of the movie. I digress...

So, once I’d sung most of my friends up the aisle (there are still a few who still need me...), and performed one of their favourite songs during the signing-of-the-register, it was time to hang up the microphone – which was actually about the time I started working and travelling as a journalist. A couple of years later, in 2009, I was living and working as a journo in London, and my sister excitedly called to tell me she was getting married, and wanted me to be their celebrant!

Their celebrant?! I honestly thought I’d be her bridesmaid, like I was at her first wedding! (as well as the wedding singer, of course ;) But apparently it’s bad luck to have the same bridesmaid in their second wedding. I still need to google that... Off topic again...

Anyway, I half-heartedly looked into it, because I knew she wanted to get married at the ChristChurch Cathedral in the Square, and I certainly wasn’t an Anglican minister, and only the ordained can surely officiate in such a sacred space. All I could offer the church was my special gift of being a former wedding singer!
