Christmas greetings and blessings everyone! Jazzie and I and all of the Lansdowne House team hope that you had a joyful, happy and relaxed Christmas with your family and friends!

Lansdowne House opened for the 19th year for our Christmas Day lunch. The menu, as always, was traditional and included turkey, Champagne ham, my Gravlaxed salmon, roast and mashed potatoes, baked veg as well as a medley of greens veg and my sweetcorn soufle as well as all the condiments. Lots of canapes including a kilo of whitebait made into fritters...all devoured very quickly! Dessert, as always had the 1798 Christmas pudding plus brandy custard, strawberries, the 20 egg Pavlova, lots of bite size treats, 7 x icecreams, raspberry coulis, Caramel, chocolate Ganache and lemon curd sauces. Most were too full to have coffee and tea and Christmas mince tarts!!

This year I called all the staff out to meet the guests. I had the invaluable help of Marama and Jessy in the kitchen, however, all the rest of the staff were new to Lansdowne House and they did so well, I was truly blessed. Tracey was on the bar, Marina worked front of house and helped Tracey getting supplies from the chiller and Jessy commandeered his lovely Mum Denise and his young sister Tyler to help front of house and wherever needed! Denise did a fabulous job with the dishes and Marina was everywhere she needed to be. Marama with Jessy's help oversaw everything in the kitchen so that it all went smoothly and according to plan. Without all of these wonderful people Christmas Day would not have happened...so thank you, thank you team... it was the success it was because of you!

The guests, too, were lovely and very appreciative of the food and the wide variety of food as well as the opportunity to spend a leisurely, relaxing day at Lansdowne House, such a unique and special place in the Wairarapa. For many the highlight of their time here was the appearance on more than one occasion of the principal host here...Jazzie...who was determined to visit and spend time with every guest and to make sure we were all doing our jobs properly!! Needless to say she's a bit tired today and is snoring gently in her favourite spot!!

Now I'm into clean up mode, vac'ing & mopping etc. plus 5 x loads of washing...but also methinks I will need a few nanny naps! Lots of lovely people have given me presents...thank you! They're still under the tree and I hope to open them later!

Take care everyone especially if you're driving!!

To all Jazzie's wonderful fans out there...I just thought you'd like to know that my beloved four legged, gorgeous companion is 9 years old today!!! We've just had a quiet day together with lots of hugs and smoochies. The perfect day for her!! She's had a few treatos too and I'm about to give her dinner...another favourite part of the day for her!

9 yrs old is getting really old for a St Bernard. She has certainly slowed down and her zoomies don't last as long as they once did. However, she still goes for her daily trip down to the gates and barks at everything that moves to let the neighbourhood know that Jazzie's on patrol!! Bless her!

Hello everyone, it's been a while since I've been in touch! I've been rather busy and the days race by quickly! However, I just wanted to let you know that we're now in the very busy Christmas Season and "YES" I am opening again for the 19th year on Christmas Day! There are still a few places left so get in touch with me by email...[email protected] or phone me 06 3782097 or 027-2209-874

In the meantime I've just had 3 lovely functions in 6 days! The first was a bus group from Notable Tours organised by Andrew London and his team. They came for dinner and a tour of the house with Andrew and his team playing a wonderful musical interlude! They are very talented musicians and Andrew is a very accomplished singer so I would highly recommend Notable Tours for a bus tour with a difference.

A few days later we had guests from the Masonic Village, many of whom come every year and it was great to see so many familiar faces here again.

Sunday lunch saw a group from the Wellington Drivers Jaguar Car Club here for a Christmas lunch. It was a beautiful day and the carpark was filled with all types for gorgeous Jaguars! Many enjoyed canapes out on the verandah before coming inside for the main course, a relaxed and leisurely affair. Between the main and dessert the trophies were given out...which gave everyone time to digest the main course. As always, dessert is everyone's favourite finishing off with coffee and tea and Christmas treats!! We also had two lovely couples staying upstairs, David and Madeleine and Paul and Vivian. It was great to get to know them.

Finally, a big "thank you" to the team who worked so hard, Marama, Jessy, Christine, Lisa and Caroline...and of course, my beloved Jazzie who waited very impatiently each time to come out to welcome all the guests! She definitely is the 'hostess with the mostess'!! She's 9 on the 8th December which is old for a St Bernard...but we won't tell her that!

Take care everyone and look after yourselves over this Christmas month!

Last Saturday we had an 80th birthday luncheon for Alan and his family, 51 guests in all. It was a fine but cold winter's day. Sarah arrived at 7.30 and as usual, got the two open fires roaring within minutes. They were such a cheery sight and we kept them well stocked up all day. Indeed, with all the heaters on as well it was so warm and cosy that we had to switch off some of the heating by early afternoon.

The food was well received with roast chicken but also scotch fillet cooked medium rare...it was perfect! Lots of vegetable dishes as always and apple & blackberry as well as apple and plum crumbles with vanilla custard, our 20 egg raspberry Pavlova, fruit salad, jellies, icecreams galore and raspberry coulis, thick salted caramel and chocolate Ganache sauces.

As always I thank the hard working team who received so many compliments for their service - Marama, Jessy, Christine, Lisa and Caroline... and thank you to Sarah as well for the wonderful fires and the tidy up outside! Without everyone's help and input, it wouldn't work. Thank you all!

A very BIG thank you to all you lovely people who rang and emailed and commented on Facebook and texted to say how much you had enjoyed the mid winter Christmas lunch! I have passed on your comments to all the hard working staff and we are all thrilled that you enjoyed the roaring fires, the great staff, the food, the Christmas decorations and the special ambience that is...Lansdowne House! Bless you all!

Hello everyone, last Sunday we hosted our mid winter Christmas lunch open to the public. It was a huge success with 71 guests who came. Sadly I had to turn away a couple of groups who phoned to book at the last minute and it was too late to reorganise the ballroom with tables etc.

It was a beautiful winter's day but very cold and both the ballroom fires were stoked up to keep everyone warm and toastie! There was an abundance of food for everyone to go back for seconds and even thirds and it was a happy and relaxed day for all the guests. We even had several bridal couples from the past, Carolyn and Ian from 2005 and Melody and Andrew from 2008 who came with their two daughters and their family. We also had Shura Lindsey, the mother of Hamish who married Sophie & who now resides in the U.K. and Caroline who married Chris in 2011 and has now joined our team!

It was a day of happy memories and I would like to thank everyone who came to join us and to all of you who organised a group of people - Paul and Di, Alex, Sarah and my '8 O'clockers' who came to support me. A special 'thank you' to Elaine as well for being my worthy admin assistant!

It wasn't the easiest day for the team as we had key staff away sick but with the help of my friend Tess who was absolutely wonderful and the hard work of every team member, Marama, Jessy, Christine and Caroline we made it through. Thank you! It couldn't have been done without you!

I have had so many phone calls, emails etc. from guests who really enjoyed their day and I would like to thank all of you for your kind and thoughtful words. It is very much appreciated and your comments have all been passed onto the team.

My only regret is that we were all so busy we didn't take any photos!! Grrrr! Sorry folks!!

Hello everyone. A special day - D Day - 6 June 1944, such a memorable day in the Allied war effort to defeat N**i Germany. 80 years ago today. So many young soldiers died but their brave efforts turned the tide of the war and made victory possible in 1945. It was also the day when my beloved Rick - Richard James Merralls - was born amidst the bombs at St Thomas's hospital in London! He was a true Cockney!

Sadly he died 6 years ago on 11 June 2018 but for all who knew and loved him please raise a glass (of whisky or red wine) today in his honour. God bless!

Here is the flyer and menu for you. Remember please book early to make sure you won't miss out.

HAPPY EASTER everyone!! I hope you are all enjoying a relaxing and very blessed time with your family and friends and for all of you who have gone away for Easter I wish you a very safe trip home. Take care and watch out for the idiots out there!!

It's been a busy time of late for me and for all the staff at Lansdowne House. Apart from the usual monthly dinner group we've had several functions including a 75th birthday for Brian and his family who came from far and wide to have a weekend event here. It was lovely to see the family able to reunite here and spend quality time over nearly three days. Then in February we had a lovely dinner for 79 guests from the Packard Car Club, many of whom came from the United States. They loved their evening here and were very complimentary even calling out all the staff at the end of the evening to say thank you and give us a big round of applause. That was much appreciated! A few days later we had a lovely wedding for Blair and Melinda, again a huge success and I look forward to seeing the photos of their special day. What a lovely couple and Blair was quick to step in on the Saturday morning and help Christine and I set up the white chairs in the rose Arbor. He also washed the Jaguar for me as they wanted to take photos with it! Thank you so much Blair! After breakfast the next day the boys brought back all the tables and chairs for me which had been removed for the wedding! As I told Melinda..."he's definitely a keeper!" They are both very special people and I wish them all the very best for their future together.

I can't believe it's April tomorrow! It looks like it will be a quieter month before May and June which are much busier. Once again I have decided to have a mid year Christmas lunch on Sunday 30 June...so mark that in your diaries! It was a great success last year and I've had several enquiries and some bookings already so it looks like it will be popular again. I haven't finalised a menu yet but watch this space everyone!!

Enjoy the rest of the Easter break! Be kind to one another, treasure the special moments and don't eat too many Easter eggs!!

Last evening we hosted another group from the Jaguar Car Club. They last came here in November 2022 and it was lovely to see so many returning for a second time as well as new faces. It was a very hot and sultry evening but a very enjoyable one not only for the guests but for the staff as well. Lisa, Christine and Marama all commented what a lovely group of people you all were. I'm also glad that you enjoyed my rendition of the history of this beautiful home and the tour upstairs! Not to mention the gravlax salmon which one lady said was "sublime"! High praise indeed! Thank you! And of course, I can't not mention my precious girl, Jazzie, who made her normal appearance to say "hi" to you all!

Lastly, may I thank all of you who have thanked me for a lovely evening and said how much it was enjoyed by everyone. Thank you to Christine Warner who organised the get together and has made another lovely comment on Facebook as has Colleen Beth Clark. The staff and I appreciate your kind words!
