Thank you EVERYONE for joining us on our journey through another bountiful late winter and early spring flush of magnificent beauties! I've noticed many regular and new customers returning for another Daffodil and Tulip season and it always gives me great pleasure to share these beautiful flowers with you.
Our Daffodil Day fundraiser was another successful way to open the season together and our honesty stand sales raised $80 thank you again.
On the last weekend of September and the first weekend of October, our takings from our honesty stand (our beloved Little Shop) were nobably low. If you forgot to pay, that's OK, there's still time. Otherwise, I will note the missing bunches of Mt Hutt Blooms as possible thefts and it may change the way our flowers are sold in the future. So much love and effort goes into growing and wrapping our Mt Hutt Blooms and we don't want to let a couple of "bad apples" ruin the magic for all.
For almost two years now I've been dropping hints about our new gardens. Our focus is always on our family and farm and there hasn't been the right time to share much, hence my noticeable absence from social media these last few years.
Mt Hutt Blooms has grown from a notebook idea seven years ago into something with a greater purpose born from passion and care.
I'm delighted to share that we will be attending this seasons Methven Markets starting on Sunday the 27th of October.
This week I am finally (yes finally!) able to reveal our Bellmond Gardens story and we can't wait for you all to join us as we transition this journey into something truly magical together.

Good Morning All! The early evening rain lastnight has meant that again, I'm so sorry, there will be no fresh cut Mt Hutt Blooms at our Little Shop again today!
Whilst it is fine to cut blooms in the rain, or when they are wet, it's not ideal and certainly doesn't make for a pleasant wrapping experience with paper!
Here's a little video of a selection of areas in our cutting garden beds this morning, there's plenty ready for when the weather is warmer and drier again!
Have a great day everyone!

I felt that the indoor light shining on yesterday's Friday Flowers didn't do the colours of the blooms justice.
Here's a little video to highlight the vibrancy of our stems, and the huge benefit of photographing flowers in natural light!

Who would have thought that making leaf mould could be this much fun? (Or making reel videos for that matter?!)
I don't usually share insight into our family life, however yesterday morning, whilst Charlotte was sleeping in her pram, William and I had a wonderful time gathering (and throwing!) leaves! We raked them together (mostly!) and started loading into the wheelbarrow to empty into our wire cage for making leaf mould. Then under his own initiative, William decided that his tractor and trailer would be better suited to the task and proudly marched to the patio to bring them! At two and a half years old he is already quite independent and every day he amazes us with how perceptive and witty he is!
So why were we gathering leaves in the first place? Well we are making leaf mold! It's basically a collection of leaves from our deciduous trees which we put into a wire ring, moisten with water and compact slightly, then leave for fungi to break them down! What's left is a lovely mulch of rotten autumn leaves, full of fungi, that can all go on top of the soil and continue to decompise by the assistance of soil bacteria. Weed suppression, increased soil nutrient availability and assisting with water retention are all major benefits and one of the best parts is it's FREE!
In NZ now us the perfect time to have a go if you've never made leaf mold before, and you don't need to make a wire cage as big as ours. Cages help contain the leaves and using chicken wire you can construct a cage to suit any size. There's lots of information online too!
Thank you for reading, and have a great day!

It was hard to resist capturing one of the last gift bouquets of our second year from our view of Mt Hutt ππ
On a cool Autumn morning last week, after arranging a collection of our lovingly grown, harvested and conditioned stems of our Mt Hutt Blooms, I created this little video to capture its beauty before it was carefully wrapped and on its way to its recipient.
As always, 100% of the stems were grown here on our farm in specialist cutting gardens using spray-free, organic, and no-dig practises.

Not our usual top quality blooms, and but they'll "brighten up a space"...
After receiving such positive feedback about possible uses for our raindrop stained and slightly insect nibbled blooms it gives me great pleasure to share with you our "Funky Flowers" initiative!
$10 big posies of "imperfect blooms" like these will now be available from our roadside shop 8km up Mt Hutt Station Road out of Methven, at least until it stops raining heavily and I perfect the art of re-directing certain insects!
All blooms which don't meet my high standards to be included in our signature Mt Hutt Blooms seasonal arrangements will now be considered for our simple Funky Flowers bunches.
As always, 100% of our blooms are grown here on our farm by me from seed using chemical-free, organic and no-till practises.
These EXACT blooms will be available from today and over the weekend.
Have a great day!
