Celebrating 150 years Help us celebrate the 150th anniversary 10th -11th November 2023. It will also help us with planning for numbers.

There will be tours of the school with classrooms themed in decades of the past and present. Check out our events listings and sign up so your friends and whanau can see what events you are going to and join you. Some of the events include:

Acknowledgement Post - Jubilee Celebration
On behalf of the staff, students and the entire Opotiki Primary School community, we would like to sincerely thank everyone who attended and supported our 150th Jubilee Celebration over the past 2 days. We would also like to thank all our local clubs and establishments like the Opotiki RSA, the Opotiki Golf Club, the Opotiki Coastguard, Crossroads Gastropub and the Opotiki Museum for their support in hosting some of the organised activities for our visitors and ex-students over the past 2 days.

A big mihi to all the people involved and we as a school are so grateful for your support which has made our celebration a success. We had about 300 people join us over the 2 days of celebration taking time to catch up with friends and whanau sharing stories and reminiscing about their time at Opotiki Primary School. They were able to take with them some Jubilee memorabilia and more importantly memories of their experience that we are sure they will treasure forever. Once again to all the ex-students and our whanau who joined us, supported us and celebrated with us in person and in spirit, we thank you for making this a celebration to remember and the beginning of our exciting journey to the next 150 years! We were blessed with beautiful fine weather on Saturday for our Jubilee Memories day. It was great to see so many of our ex-students and teachers attend the powhiri and unveiling ceremony sharing their stories and reuniting for a walkthrough around the school bringing back memories of their primary school days.

Jubilee Open Day
It was an eventful day of celebration, reunion, great learning and some fun in the sun for our tamariki with their afternoon tabloid old school games. We had a great turn out of visitors taking the time to walk around the school and classrooms viewing the amazing displays our tamariki had put together over the past 2 terms learning about the history of our school and its journey over the past 150 years.

Jubilee Classroom Displays
Here is a photo gallery of the classroom Jubilee displays that our staff and students put together for the 2 day celebration. Our tamariki worked really hard in making their creations and put some thought and planning into setting up their displays. A big mihi to all our teachers and students for taking us through the journey of our school over 150 years from 1873 to 2023 with their class displays. Ka pai to koutou mahi.

Our Jubilee Memories Day today will begin with a powhiri at 9.00am followed by the unveiling of our Jubilee Carving and cutting of the cake. Activities organised for the day will follow. To all our whanau and visitors that will be attending , we look forward to seeing you all at the celebration. A big mihi as well to those that attended the Open Day yesterday. It was such an eventful day of celebration with our tamariki and great to have met many of you and listen to some of your school stories here at Opotiki Primary School.
Our school field will be open for parking. The gate along the Ford Street end will be open.

The Opotiki Museum extends a warm welcome to all former students of Opotiki Primary, on Friday, Saturday and Sunday (10 - 2pm) For all former students. Admission to the Museum and Shalfoons is by koha for former pupils, with Goldcard members and over 65s free. We have a lift for those who can't access via the stairs, and a wheelchair. Local film footage runs on the large screen tv, and includes the OPS parade in 1962, the '64 flood clean up, and shipping in the Opotiki and Ohiwa harbours. Nau mai haere mai

Opotiki Primary School Jubilee Booklet

We're delighted that the Opotiki Primary School 150th Jubilee booklets are here! With a collection full of 150 years of stories and memories, this booklet is definitely worth a read. The booklet will be available at the school over the 2 days of our Jubilee celebration and courier orders can also be made through the school office on:

The Jubilee Booklet costs $50.
For courier orders - $50 + $11 courier fees = $61
For rural delivery - $50 + $16 courier fees = $66

Ōpōtiki Harbour Tours

Take an opportunity to go for a tour through our new harbour development with the Opotiki Coastguard. These tours have been scheduled for Friday the 10th and Saturday the 11th of November from 1pm - 6pm depending on bookings. Advance bookings will need to be made for this tour through Opotiki Primary School at $20 per person. Each tour can accommodate a group of 6 people at one time so if you have a group that would like the opportunity to sight-see through the new harbour development and a tour with the coastguard, please call the school office on 073156362.

Mussel Factory Tour Cancelled

We have just received an update from the Mussel Factory that due to maintenance to some of their factory machinery and the current low run in mussel supply to the factory, the scheduled Mussel Factory Tour for Friday the 10th of November has had to be cancelled. We apologies for the change as we had a number of interests that were hoping to attend the tour.

OPS 150th Jubilee Ambrose

Here is an update of our Jubilee Ambrose Golf @ Opotiki Golf Club.
Put a team together (group of 3 or 4) or show up on the day and join a team. A great way to have some fun in the sun.
Tee off at 10.30am - 11.30am rolling start ($20 per person entry fee to be paid at the club on the day). PRIZES UP FOR GRABS!
