I was in Auckland airport last night. This last week has been pretty full on and I was ready for home. It was extra busy, there were less seats to sit in and more lines to wait in. And for one reason...Coldplay.
Thousands of Kiwis were either going to or coming back from an incredible concert by one of my favourite bands.
I talked to a few fellow travellers -who shared videos from the concert the night before, showed me there new Coldplay T shirts - they were all still buzzing!
And there was one word that came up again and again. CONNECTED.
So many talked about the amazing feeling of being with tens of thousands of complete strangers...who potentially shared different political or philosophical views...but for those few hours, with Chris Martin’s voice in the air, they were all together. The words and the melodies made them feel CONNECTED.
The world seemed a better place. A simpler place.
I had the absolute pleasure of interviewing Chris Martin a few years back and I'll never forget these words he said..
"It's not about us. It's about the people, the crowd, everyone singing together. That's what it's really about—bringing people together and making them feel like they're part of something bigger."
So to Coldplay...Chris Martin, Jonny Buckland, Guy Berryman and Will Champion THANK YOU for bringing people together in a time when others try to force us apart.
