A couple years back along my favourite highway on the planet 🗺️ this is the highway along the West Coast of the South Island. Coastline on one side, huge rainforest mountains on the other, and behind those mountains, more mountains. These are the enormous, snow capped mountains that make up The Southern Alps 🏔️

🏔️🏔️ this shot was taken from Porters Alpine Resort, down in the south, just off of the Arthur’s Pass road near Castle Hill. It was a last minute stay but ended up being one of my favourite places to stay for that entire trip. The resort is on the side of Mount Enys, which resulted in me going for a hike to the snow line before dinner 😅 and the burgers are INSANE. Definitely worth checking out if you’re going to be in that area.

One of the most epic sunsets I’ve seen in my life, going down over the West Coast, South Island 🌞 this place is called Cape Foulwind, named after the extremely bad winds you can get along the cape 😅👌🏼

View from the top of Mt Maunganui ⛰️ the 150m on the East Coast of NZ, in the City of Tauranga. From the top you can even see White Island, which is New Zealand’s most active volcano and responsible for the most recent large eruption🌋

I think I’m going to print this one… 🗺️
This hike is honestly so dope! You start out in the Whakapapa village and embark on a hike up to the Tama Lakes between Mt Ruapehu and Ngarahoe. You reach about 1200m altitude at the highest point along the hike and the view is spectacular! You can pretty much see right across the North Island if the clarity is good, which it was.

The Tama lakes were really impressive, filled with acidic water due to the fact that the lakes themselves are actually volcanic craters, but look really inviting to swim in, especially on a really hot day. (Please don’t try swim in the lakes you will burn, if you don’t fall to your demise trying to get down to them).

A little backstory behind this shot in particular:
I was walking back down from the end of the track, which happens to be the highest, and saw the rock that I’m standing on in the photo. I thought it would be a sick spot for a photo but all the people I was hiking with had already pulled too far ahead for me to call out for them to take it for me, and I also didn’t have a tripod on me. So I did what I could with what I had, made myself a little camera stand out of my camera bag and some rocks, set the camera to a 10 second timer and then attempted the shot a total of 3 times before actually succeeding. It was quite a far run and running faster and faster was getting problematic with being on top of a volcano and all; their rocky surfaces tend to be a bit unstable when the rocks under you decide to just slide out from under your feet 😂

All in all it was a dope day.

What a dope place to be calling home for a while 🍃 This is the Timber Trail Lodge located halfway along the Timber Trail in the Pureora forest, surrounded by beautiful native bush land and high hills. It’s off the grid, powered by the sun, the water supply come is the sky and food and drinks are locally sourced! Definitely worth checking out if you’re in the area!

The views from the Tama Lakes are simply breathtaking - from the towering peaks of the volcanoes to the glacier blue waters of the lakes. The hike up to the lakes is a challenge, but the reward at the top is worth every step. Take in the fresh mountain air and enjoy the beauty of the Tongariro desert as you journey through this incredible landscape.

It really bums me out when you go to a beautiful beach like Tauranga and find fishing line laying around. We all know what happens when we leave the line on the beach and yet some of us still struggle to find the decency to pick it up. Come on guys, be better…
Ok rant over, it was a stunning day at the beach, really wish summer could last longer but if that was the last swim before winter kicks in, it was a bloody good one 😍 .murdoch thanks for an epic adventure as always ❤️
