Jay was the Captain of Ladder 6 that day. Thier wives Judy and Rita both accompanied them out and too had amazing stories to tell.

Last weekend we organized and ran our 20th firefighter Sky Tower climb! Our biggest and most successful to date.
Incredible to think of the journey this amazing event has taken us on! From a crazy naive idea by Tony Scott 21 years ago to where we are today!
We have raised over 16 million dollars over the 20 years all for Leukaemia and Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand
, we started with a handful of firefighters and this year we had over 1100 enter and do the climb on the day! This year we have raised an incredible 1.95million ( it’s still going up since last weekend!!) dollars! Truly unbelievable.
So incredibly humbling to be honored to work with all these amazing and dedicated firefighters each year, you truly go from strength to strength in your dedication to the event and the charity.
To our talented volunteers who turn up at the crack of dawn and work your heart out on the day, and some for days before, to make it run like clockwork, we simply could not do this without you. Our team of amazing medics Bradley Dridan, who get us all back on our feet ( me included this year!!!)
We are so grateful for the skill level you provide which equals an A&E department on the day!!
The Broadcast Arts film team headed by Sharon Murphy and Rhys for the film footage and live camera action.
Our core FireUp Events team, Brian Powell
, Matt Banister and James Thompson
for all the behind the scenes prep in the days before and afterwards, you make us look so good!! 🥰
If I have forgotten anyone I am sorry and please call me out!! Xx
Finally our charity and our sponsors, Leukaemia and blood cancer NZ you are a pleasure to work with and support, your work touches so many of us, and to SkyCity we love your playground that you provide and your dedication and support for what we all do, and Auckland Airport for your longstanding sponsorship that has enabled the event to grow. And to Fire and Emergency New Zealand for supporting us in all we do and playing such a big role in our events.
We thank you all. What an incredible journey it’s been! ❤️
…….heres to another 20 years!!!!
