I’ve never proclaimed to be an expert gardener. But what I love about gardening is you don’t have to be.

I have learnt it is far easier to grow from seed than you think. Also if some fail, seeds are cheap so it’s not the end of the world.
You need to have patience as it does take time even years sometimes for gardens to grow.

I’m starting the mission to turn my gardens into a English cottage dream. No doubt it will have some fails but follow along with me.

The first picture is a garden bed we put in at the back of the house today and the rest are my inspiration images.

Is it just me or has June seemed to suddenly appeared.
I think I’m still waiting for summer to come so it feels weird to have winter here.
But that does mean I do need to start thinking ahead to my Spring garden and seed sowing. I’m so excited to have a whole range of seeds available this season for both myself and you!

I realised I haven’t posted on here for a long time.

I have enjoyed taking a step back and spending my time with my family and settling my son into school.

But I have been slowly working through the gardens and doing a big reset. My flower beds have been all pulled out and I have been nourishing the soil and also laying brick borders around them.
The property is looking ordered at the moment and I’m loving the cooler weather for slowing down the weeds.

I’m actually relishing in the seasons and not in a hurry for Spring instead enjoying the start of winter and slower pace in the garden.

Ps - Lottie has been getting a head start on the winter prune of the roses and is busy eating them 🤦‍♀️

It’s been awhile since I have posted I just realised!
I’ve been busy closing down all the gardens ready for winter. I dug up all the dahlias this week and I had a few tuber lost to rot which isn’t surprising given all the rain.
I’m actually really looking forward to winter and a big prune and hopefully reset for a much kinder season next Spring/Summer.

It’s been awhile since I last picked a punnet. But I picked a special few for today 🤩

A cute posey of zinnias, strawflowers and aster. All my stems are wonky and terrible after cyclone Gabrielle but the flowers are still growing. They’re definitely a lot smaller than last year.

I’m now trying to decide how I want my gardens next year. The good news is all these flowers we sell the seeds to. Just click on the link in our bio. 🌸 ✌️

I’m now planning my flower beds for next Spring/Summer and can’t decide. Do I do single species beds like I did this year or do I mix them up and plant all different varieties? What do you prefer?

Packaging up all your seed orders from over the weekend looking at this gloomy weather.
The cyclone hasn’t really hit Tauranga yet, thinking of those in the north.
There might be some delivery delays depending on how the storm develops.

I think seeds at the moment represent hope for future gardens when present one’s are having a very hard time.

Stay safe ✌️🤍

I’m so excited to announce our seed range is here and live!!
After this abysmal summer with another cyclone looming I’m spending my time planning and dreaming about next Spring and Summer’s gardens.
Our large range of seeds are carefully chosen and curated to fit with Crawford Road’s ethos. They are either edible, great for pressing or drying and all non-toxic. Perfect also for cutting and looking beautiful. Click on the link in our bio to see the full range.

The beauty in the photo is a unique variety of Aster - Lady Lavender.

With a heavy heart I have had to now make our fresh punnets out of stock. This time last year I had blue skies and more flowers flushing than I knew what to do with.
This year this last rain with more in sight has destroyed my flower beds and I will be unable to provide quality fresh flowers for your cakes and cooking creations at the moment.
Who knows when the weather will change. I think I’m going to move south.

Photo of course from last year when blue skies existed.

Update! It has been a very challenging growing season as I’m sure you’re all aware this ‘summer’ has been full of rain. With a brief reprieve the forecast is now rain ahead.

For this reason I have been unable to have either enough flowers or enough time with dry flowers to properly make my dried and pressed ranges this season. It hasn’t been economical to produce with such small batches.

If anything changes I will update but for this stage I won’t be producing them this season.

However, in two weeks my seed range will be available. With more info to come! For a sneak peek look at my website. Link in bio.

A throwback to Christmas time which already seems a life time ago.
I made this delish Sticky Date cake with caramel sauce with one of the Sage and Grace cake kits and decorated it with strawflowers and rosemary.

Happy New Year.

We have spent ours bird watching and trying to track the Takahe down around the Hauraki.
My wish for 2023 is settled weather and good health I think we all need it after 2022 the year of bugs. Unfortunately the weather forecast is not looking great so let’s hope my wish of health comes true instead.

Flowers won’t be available to order until late next week when we’re open once more. I will post when that is.

I haven’t seen the Strawflowers faces for days. They’ve decided to remain closed with all this rain and I don’t blame them.
I can’t remember ever having more consistent rain, unfortunately it will be pushing the dried range out as the flowers are far to wet to dry.
