An uri of Tainui waka, we are thrilled to announce NZ’s most iconic surfer will be joining us on the M9 stage. Nau mai Daniel Kereopa!

A true legend in the surfing community, Daniel has dedicated years to mastering the ocean and has become a known face to New Zealand surfing. From dominating the waves in the late 90s and early 2000s, competing globally, to pioneering Big Wave Surfing in Aotearoa, Daniel’s journey is nothing but inspiring.

He made history by winning the prestigious Australasia Oakley Big Wave Award in 2007 - 2008, and to this day, he holds the record for paddling into the biggest wave in Aotearoa! He conquered the first-ever “Ultimate Waterman” title, defeating global legends in a marathon event that showcased his mastery of the ocean in all its forms.

Hailing from Ngāti Kahungunu, Ngāti Tūwharetoa, Ngāti Kauwhata me Hāmoa, Peter Cowan enters the M9 lineup!

A NZ Paralympic Canoeist, Peter’s passion for paddling has taken him to competitions representing Aotearoa on the global stage. Peter’s journey has been nothing short of remarkable. His most recent achievement was winning a Bronze Medal at this year’s Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, along with a silver medal at the 2024 ICF Paracanoe World Championships.

Through the highs and lows, Peter’s athletic journey has been an inspiration to us all. We’re honoured to have him share his story and insights as a kaikōrero on the M9 stage.

Join us to hear first-hand how he transformed adversity into strength and became one of our top paracanoe athletes here in Aotearoa!
