It's been a week of events!
We were out again at the Pride Festival at Pūtahi Park on Saturday.
74% of waste diverted. Great effort 👏
Always a little harder to get the diversion up when we're dealing with the public rubbish bins too. But thanks to everyone who did their part to help.

We’re on the hunt for eco-warriors to help make the 10th anniversary Fritter Festival greener and cleaner! In return for your mahi, you’ll score a FREE ticket, kai, and a drink! 🍴🎟️

⏰ 2.5-hour shifts available:
✅ 2.30pm – 5.00pm
✅ 4.30pm – 7.00pm
✅ 6.30pm – 9.00pm (includes 1h helping with pack-down)

As a Green Team volunteer, you’ll help festivalgoers sort their waste and answer recycling questions – no experience needed, you'll be trained on the day!

🌏♻️ VOLUNTEERS NEEDED ♻️🌏

Hockey Northland is committed to making the 2025 Vantage National Masters Tournament an eco-friendly event with the support of .nz - to minimise landfill waste by REDUCING the need for single-use products, REUSING where possible, and disposing of our RECYCLE-bles correctly.

Volunteer Tasks & Roles include:
- MONITORING waste stations - Making sure everyone's using the right bin for their rubbish!
- SORTING & WEIGHING - Separating waste for weighing and recording.
- PROMOTING sustainable action

Volunteers don't need to give up their entire day/week - we know your time is precious! What ever time/day you can give to helping us would be greatly appreciated.

Another fantastic event from the Whangarei A&P Society! We sent over 100kg of compost to our community composting hubs thanks to and 24kgs of cans to . We achieved a total diversion of 61% of waste away from landfill - woohoo!

Big shout out to our 2 superstar volunteers Gwen and Rex, to the team from for coming onboard with the clean up - and of course for the epic bin stations that help us to do this mahi.

Remember to do the right thing with your fireworks leftovers so we can avoid anymore fires!

🔥 URGENT: Please do not put used fireworks in your paper-recycling!

Unfortunately we had a fire this morning in Whangaumu Bay, when used fireworks caught alight and had to be dumped, then extinguished by volunteer firefighters.

🧨 HOW TO DISPOSE OF USED FIREWORKS 🧨
1️⃣ Please soak used fireworks in a bucket of water overnight.
2️⃣ Put the wet fireworks in your standard rubbish bag - they cannot be recycled

A huge Congrats to Semenoff Stadium and Whangarei Lions Club for a fantastic event last night. With a total of 311.5kg’s of rubbish in total, only 96.5kg was sent to landfill - a whopping 69% diverted, woohoo!! 🥳 🎆🎇

We couldn’t have done it without the help of our amazing team of volunteers and the rugby team from Whangārei Boys' High School who were there right till the end ♻️💚

Thanks again to Semenoff Stadium for being such great supporters of our mahi and EcoSolutions; a CBEC enterprise. For helping us to compost! Team work makes the dream work!!
