I must admit, this is the closest wedding I’ve ever had, in strolling distance from my apartment 😂 last night as the sun went down I was lucky to officiate for Kate & Matthias… joined by only their daughters. A moving & intimate wedding in Basque Park, a historic and green space that was originally created to offer solace and joy during the Great Depression. It’s there to remind us of the resilience & enduring power of love. Such a gorgeous wedding for my lovely couple Jason & Wendy. The sun was shining & the tears were flowing. Small weddings are so relaxed and fun. Also just happened to be at one of my favourite restaurants .nz so after we had signed on the dotted line I popped inside to enjoy a glass of wine & a snack with my own love ❤️

On a blustery but stunning spring day, overlooking the sea (and graciously the boy racers stopped on the beach below just before our beautiful bride walked down the aisle) I had the joy of officiating for another lovely couple. With a Korean welcome and a ceremony written just for them, April & Sanggyu said I Do. With April saying part of her vows in Korean as an integration of two cultures joining. Yesterday in the rain I got to marry a lovely couple who were first meant to marry in the 1st 2020 lockdown. Since then they have added a baby to the story & whilst we got very wet they got their outdoor wedding & a reminder that a wet knot can never be undone. Last month my home was badly caught up in the flooding. After this month where Auckland (and our lovely Hawkesbay) have been put through the wringer it’s feels good to be able to sit down & concentrate on my couples who’s wedding days are drawing close. What a film worthy love story. These two met over a spilled Espresso Martini. He had just landed from England for his OE & she wasn’t even meant to be there that night. But serendipity & Dr Rudis Rooftop bar had other ideas. It was such a privilege (as it is with all my couples) to work alongside Steph & Nick. The beautiful combining of cultures and the absolute stars that they were. So many laughs & tears. Congratulations Mr & Mrs Cooke. Here’s wishing you both a lifetime of happiness.

What a lovely addition to todays ceremony for Eranda & Akiko. The Pahana, a Sri Lankan oil lamp. The brightness from the Pahana represents wisdom and hope. The rooster that is on top of the oil lamp symbolises a new beginning, just as

I became a celebrant at the end of 2019 I officiated my very first wedding 5 days before we went into lockdown… not the best time to start lol. Like every celebrant I love, LOVE! What a privilege to be entrusted with someone else’s story. However the most unexpected joy for me is to be introduced to traditions from other cultures & placing them respectfully into the ceremony. I’ve officiated a wedding at 9:45am so that the couple can sign on the dot of 10.12am because this is an auspicious time in Sri Lankan tradition. I’ve learnt to welcome guests in Portuguese & French and today I get to introduce the Pahana, a Sri Lankan oil lamp. I wonder what fun things are on the horizon. So if you think celebrants just come in and read a ‘template’ most of us don’t! We sit with our couples we learn their life, love & story. We spend hours finding the perfect way to express who they are & why they love. Being your celebrant is a privilege I don’t take lightly so to all my couples thank you for sharing your love with me. 🌈 #❤️
