Middleman played on the Rhododendron Lawn a couple of times, and I've watched a lot of gigs there. Also, played soccer with my kids when they were young and have spent time just enjoying the tranquility of it. I'm for keeping it as it is and finding other ways to solve parking issues. This season of State Highway 48 is dedicated to my fallen brother, Brendan Williams. We lost him suddenly in November, 2018. Brendan played guitar in the 2014 orchestra when we launched the show, having volunteered very early in the piece. We miss him incredibly. Rest In Peace my beautiful bro. Play on.

A word at Christmas for my fallen brother, Brendan Williams. We lost him four weeks ago and still can't believe it. Brendan was a born musician and showman. Self taught as a guitarist, a natural player and singer. Could faithfully cover any song and add his own flavour.

Have realised over the years that some things can never be taught. You have it or you don't. Brendan played every note and chord like he meant it, and sung every word like he had lived it. We believed it all. Every musician could learn off Brendan - technique, timing, tuning are all important. But the most important thing is that you put your heart and soul into every note you play, whether it's in your bedrooom, at practice or on stage. That's how he played and how he lived his life. That's what Brendan taught me. Rest in peace my beautiful brother. Play on.

Twenty-five years down the track with multiple awards and albums to their name, The Warratahs (page 11 of the programme) are New Zealand's most enduring and loved country-rock band.

The Warratahs will be joined by Chris Williams's band Middleman, and this gig will feature not only country songs, but rock and blues too.

From 8.30pm on the first Saturday night of the Festival (10 February), the Spiegeltent will become a place where old friends and new can dance the night away.
