PORK BELLY SWEET AND SOUR - A Different change but pretty yum.

Dessert Maestro also indicates something special for tonight as well.

Meals will commence after the Ode at 6.

MARINATED Slow roasted PORK SHANKS with potato SMASH and jus.

Yumm WHOLE PRAWNS AND BASMATI Rice with a light honey mustard sauce.

Dinners from 6pm.

MARINATED SLOW ROASTED BEEF STRIPLOIN with baby potatoes and maple syrup baby carrots,
or
Yumm SALMON dish with a salmon dip hash sticks and fresh asparagus. Bearnaise Sauce will be drizzled over it.

TONIGHT at the Wellsford memorial RSA - inc. Specials for this week.

Its LAMB SHANKS time. Havent had them for a month so here is your treat. Sous Vide and oven roasted shanks, with a light red wine jus. Vege and Salads also, Served on a bed of smash mash. Sold out last time so............get it in!
OR
CHICKEN BREAST KORMA, slow broiled and not strong, ideal for those having it for the first time. Did I say it wasnt strong?

Meals served after the ODE at 6.
Remember you dont have to be a member to enjoy the fruits of our volunteer labour, with the prices being the best in town for what you get.
Come in and get signed in by the duty member.

Usual menu also available.

TONIGHT at the Wellsford memorial RSA - inc. The weather we thought that was coming good, it has turned to cold custard, so we now have a different Special for the night:

ROAST BEEF: with all the trimmings, accompanied by my usual Red wine Jus (gravy), trip to the vege stand also a must.
OR
SWEET AND SOUR PORK: Hand made today usually well sought after. Not like you get at the Chinese Shops, possibly better! We will prepare some coconut cream rice to go with it.

BOTH dishes can be takeaway after 6.

While preparing for last Friday's Ham dinner, I offered to prepare a "Pineapple Sauce" to go with it.
When I went in they had all I asked for, like Pineapple juice and other stuff that I thought I might need.
Instead of milk for the 'roux' I used pineapple juice. At the end I used a can of pineapple pieces to flesh it out and a little bit of brown sugar. All turned into a bloody tasty pineapple sauce.

INGREDIENTS:
50 gm PLAIN flour
25 gm Spread (Doesnt have to be butter)
200 ml Pineapple juice
1 Dessert Spoon brown sugar
small can pineapple pieces OR crushed one.

Prepare the flour and spread in a pot and make sure they are both amalgamated properly. (DO NOT burn this part)
Pour in first 100ml of Pineapple juice, stir with a wooden spoon.
then pour in rest of juice. (Add more if too thick)
Keep stirring while on the heat, adding the can of pieces AND juice, add also the spoon of brown sugar.
Keep stirring till the flour taste has dissipated and serve.

We know it is not Christmas but who needs an excuse to indulge in some nice baked Ham on the Bone for a change!

Especially asked for by Mr Terry Arrott Reid we bring you this special by itself. I will prepare a pineapple jus to add.

Backed up by hot veg and the usual salad table.
PLUS all the other goodies on our menu will be available.

TONIGHT at the Wellsford memorial RSA - inc. Protein specials for tonight, as well as our normal menu.

BEEF RIBS, on our smashed spuds, served with red wine jus. Ideally paired with a shiraz from our range.
OR
ROAST LAMB prepared at length with the smashed spuds as well.
Served with Mint Jelly and maybe some mint sauce as well.
AND
PUMPKIN SOUP, this one is a goodie, not thick, not thin, fully tasty. Ideal as an entree.

As usual dinners will be served after the Ode at 6. Please bear in mind that the orders are taken and handed to the cooks together and we do our best. Not a bad kitchen for all volunteers.

Tonight we catered for some teachers at Rodney College for their mid term discussions with parents.
Started with homemade pumpkin soup with chicken korma on coconut rice to follow.
Finished it off with homemade chocolate fruit cake with custard cream and a Berry compote.
Not formal so no set up.

WITHDRAWAL OF WHANGAREI SERVICE:

A few people may have noticed that we have withdrawn from operating in Whangarei area, with a few exceptions.
Costs and overheads mainly from the WDC have made our presence too expensive.
Such things as our Health Plan requirements; inspections by council for this; what seems an expensive "Permission" to operate and maintain a sewage distribution system; all this adds up, I feel sorry for other operators.
We have operated with the Tikipunga Soccer Club since 2006 and have enjoyed our relationships with them but they also are enduring alterations which would have affected our kitchen operation.
We now generally operate out of Wellsford. If you are an old customer of ours we would love to come back up if you require us, with it not costing you for mileage.
Thanks to all our customers over the years. If you want us, we can come!

TONIGHT at the Wellsford memorial RSA - inc. Dish Specials for the night (Unless we run out).

Continuing our Winter theme:
PORK SHANKS on mash with a white wine Jus and Apple sauce. Always gaining in popularity, best served with a Sav Blanc or Pinot Noir.
OR
SATAY CHICKEN on Coconut Rice. We ran out last time for this popular comfort dish.

As usual, dinner start at 6. Yes orders are usually ALL taken at the same time, so please if you have a time problem, please advise us.
Salmon has to be baked in the oven so can take some time to deliver. It is a hard dish to judge but we do our best.

REMEMBER all our workers in the kitchen are volunteers.

Friday night at the Wellsford memorial RSA - inc meal specials for you.
If you haven't noticed yet, it is WINTER!!! and we like to select dishes that are nice and warm for you, So we have this week selected good comfortable food again.

ROAST BEEF with a trip to the salad or vege buffet, served with red wine jus.
OR
STICKY PORK RIBS, you know, the yummy ones you can only have a few they fill your tummy, bring Mummy.
OR
Our normal menu still applies.

PLUS:
Entree of Roast PUMPKIN SOUP freshly prepared.
AND
Dessert special is:
Chocolate (mid winter) Christmas style cake with mixed berries and Ice Cream and cream. (It is Yum, I have tried it)

Dinners start at 6 pm after the Ode.

Please remember the kitchen staff are all volunteers.

ROAST PORK and all the trimmings, always another busy night for us. We MIGHT find some crackling for ya.
OR
SATAY CHICKEN, Thai style (not harsh on the body functions) but semi sweet served on rice.
AND
Genuine (home prepared) FRENCH ONION SOUP, slightly onion sweet, served as an entree, cheese float on top.
WITH
either hot veg or a trip to the lovely salad table,

AND then another larger funeral to cater for in Warkworth. We seem to get around at the moment.
This is a photo of what comes out for 100 ppl. Note we also provide staff to pour tea and brewed coffee. None of this "make your own" that some caterers do.
